Manjrekar Snubs Kohli From T20 World Cup Post, Draws Flak On Social Media

Former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar shared a heartfelt post after the team's T20 World Cup triumph. Taking to social media platform X, Manjrekar credited captain Rohit Sharma, head coach Rahul Dravid, and chief selector Ajit Agarkar for the team's success in the tournament as India ended a 13-year wait to win an ICC title. However, there was no mention of star batter Virat Kohli in Manjrekar's post. Fans were quick to notice the same and blasted the cricketer-turned-commentator for ignoring Kohli, who was named 'Man of the Match' in the final against South Africa.

"Rohit Sharma, Rahul Dravid & Ajit Agarkar are your people with absolute integrity. So happy that they had something to show in the end! My heart goes out to them," Manjrekar captioned the post.

Here's how the Internet reacted:

Soon after the final, Kohli announced his retirement from the T20I format, with Rohit also following the suit.

After managing just 75 runs in the first seven innings of the competition, Virat stepped up when it mattered the most, scoring 76 in 59 balls, with six fours and two sixes. His runs came at a strike rate of 128.81.

Virat has ended the ongoing edition with 151 runs in eight innings at an average of 18.87 and a strike rate of 112.68, with one fifty.

In 35 T20 World Cup matches, Virat has scored 1,292 runs at an average of 58.72 and a strike rate of 128.81, with 15 half-centuries. His best score is 89*. He is the highest run-scorer in the history of the tournament.

In 125 T20I matches, Virat scored 4,188 runs at an average of 48.69 and a strike rate of 137.04. He scored a century and 38 fifties and a best score of 122*. He ends the format as the second-highest run-getter of all time.

Rohit also ended the tournament with a career-best performance with the bat with 257 runs in eight games at an average of 36.71 and a strike rate of over 156. His best score was 92 and scored three half-centuries in the competition to become the second-highest run-getter.

Rohit retires as a double T20 WC champion, winning the title back in 2007 as a young up-and-coming prodigy. In 151 T20I matches, Rohit has scored 4,231 runs at an average of 32.05 with a strike rate of over 140. He scored five centuries and 32 fifties in his career, with the best score of 121*. Rohit is also the leading run-scorer in the format.

Rohit Sharma Was Not About To Retire From T20Is, Says "Situation Was..."

India skipper Rohit Sharma callled time on his T20I career after guiding the team to its second World Cup in the format, describing it as the perfect time to "say goodbye". Rohit made the announcement at the press conference after his long-time teammate Virat Kohli brought down curtains on his fabled career minutes after India defeated South Africa by seven runs at the Kensington Oval, Barbados in the final. "This was my last game as well. No better time to say goodbye. I wanted this (trophy) badly. It's very hard to put in words," Rohit told at the post-match press conference.

"This what I wanted and it happened. I was very desperate for this in my life. Happy that we crossed the line this time," he added.

The 37-year-old had led India in the 2022 T20 World Cup where the team was ousted in the semifinals by eventual champions England.

A year later, India reached the final of the 50-over World Cup at home under his leadership, but succumbed to Australia in the summit clash at Ahmedabad.

Rohit left T20Is with 4231 runs from 159 matches, having made five hundreds and 32 fifties. He continues to be active in the Test and ODI formats.

A video of the player has gone viral on social media in which he could be seen revealing the reporters that he didn't plan to quit T20I cricket initially, but he took the decision considering the ideal situation.

"I didn't think that I would retire from T20Is, but the situation was such... I thought it was the perfect situation for me. Nothing better than winning the cup and saying goodbye," Rohit said in the video.

After Rohit Sharma's retirement from the format, Hardik Pandya is the front runner to take the role of India captaincy in T20Is. When Rohit missed T20I action in 2023, it was Hardik Pandya, who led the Indian team in the shortest format.

1st Time In Indian Cricket: Pant Sets Hits Low With 0 In T20 WC Final

India scored a record-high total in the T20 World Cup final against South Africa with Virat Kohli playing the lead role. Talismanic batterKohli stepped up to the plate, ending his lean patch with a 59-ball 76 to help India post a competitive 176/7 against South Africa in the final of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 at the Kensington Oval here on Saturday.

On a dry and slow pitch, South Africa made early inroads by picking three quick wickets. But Kohli stood up to be at the centre of India's innings, despite a middle-overs slowdown, with his crucial knock laced with six fours and two sixes, as they posted the highest total in a Men's T20 World Cup final.

It was a knock in which Kohli scored more than what his first seven innings in the tournament yielded (75 runs). His 72-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Axar Patel, who made 47 off 31 balls, and a 57-run partnership with Shivam Dube, who hit a 16-ball 27, helped India go past the 175-run mark, as they hammered 42 runs off the last three overs.

Kohli got India going with three boundaries – drive through point, whip through square leg, and straight drive – on overpitched deliveries from Marco Jansen, as 15 runs came off the opening over. Rohit Sharma cut and reverse-swept for consecutive boundaries off Keshav Maharaj.

But Maharaj bounced back as he had Rohit sweeping aerially to square-leg to fall for nine, followed by dismissing Rishabh Pant for a two-ball duck when the top-edge on his sweep off a full and wide ball ballooned off the toe-end to keeper Quinton de Kock.

Pant is now the first Indian batter to fall for 0 in the final of a T20 World Cup. The previous lowest score was 4 by Ajinkya Rahane in the 2014 edition.

So far, before Pant, five other Indians have been out for 0 in final of World Cups.

Kirti Azad (1983 ODI World Cup)
Mohammad Kaif (2003 ODI World Cup)
Virender Sehwag (2011 ODI World Cup)
MS Dhoni (2013 Champions Trophy)
Rohit Sharma (2017 Champions Trophy)
Rishabh Pant (2024 T20 World Cup 2024)

Kagiso Rabada struck in the fifth over when Suryakumar Yadav moved across to whip a back-of-a-length ball, but fine leg advanced to his left and took a spectacular catch, ending his stay on just three, as India were reduced to 34/3 in 4.3 overs.

With Kohli taking up the busy strike-rotation role in rebuilding India's innings, pinch-hitter Axar took up the attacking mantle by clipping Rabada for four, clearing deep mid-wicket to get a six off Markram, slog-sweeping Maharaj for a maximum over the same region and hitting a flat six down on one knee to just clear long-on for a six off Tabraiz Shamsi.

Axar brought up India's hundred in 13.1 overs by hammering Rabada for a six down the ground. But a ball and wide later, South Africa produced a moment of magic when Kohli missed a delivery and the ball went behind to de Kock, who ran out Axar, who turned back and ran slowly, with a direct hit and sent him back for 47.

With Kohli still finding fielders and not getting timing to hit boundaries, Dube lofted Jansen for six and then slog-sweep Shamsi for four more. After Kohli got his first fifty of this tournament, in 48 balls with a single off Nortje, Dube ended the 17th over with a slice past the backward point for four.

Kohli got his first six of the competition by slogging Rabada over long-on and then pulled the pacer for four more, as 16 runs came off the 18th over. Kohli clipped and slogged Jansen for four and six respectively, before the pacer dragged his length back and had the batter holing out to long-on.

Hardik Pandya came in and top-edged a pull off Jansen over the keeper's head for four, as 17 runs came off the 19th over. Dube struck Nortje down the ground past a diving mid-on for four, before the pacer bounced back by taking out him and Ravindra Jadeja on the last three balls of the innings to keep India four runs below 180.

Six-Hour Flight Delay For South Africa Ahead Of T20 World Cup Final vs India

A landing failure of a small aircraft in Barbados has left the T20 World Cup final-bound South Africa and ICC match officials stranded, being delayed by nearly six hours, as per ESPNcricinfo. As per ESPNcricinfo, landing failure of a small private aircraft at the Grantley Adams airport in Barbados resulted in the Proteas team, their family, commentators, match officials and ICC officials being stranded at the Trinidad airport. The Barbados Airport was closed for inspection by the Civil Aviation Authority and the Barbados Police Service.

The pilots learned of the runway closure in Bridgetown just as they were preparing to take off from Trinidad.

Passengers on the aircraft from Trinidad to Barbados were advised that the preliminary rescheduling time was 4.30pm, which would result in a roughly six-hour delay. All boarding passengers had to return to the terminal, adding to the considerable delays experienced by teams during the tournament.

"It appeared that the landing gear of the private aircraft did not deploy, but it is currently on the runway at GAIA [Grantley Adams International Airport] safely," Sharleen Brown, Corporate Communication Specialist with GAIA, said in a statement as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

On the back of a belligerent bowling performance, South Africa secured a ticket for the men's T20 World Cup 2024 final for the first time, defeating Afghanistan in the first semi-final in Trinidad.

Bowling Afghanistan out for just 56, South Africa hit their straps early by claiming eight wickets inside the first 10 overs of the innings.

The final will be an affair of heavyweights as India, who ended England's T20 World Cup defence, will face South Africa in Saturday's final at the Kensington Oval in Barbados.

After some underwhelming performances, Jos Buttler's side pulled off a stunning victory to go to the Super Eights, with the captain scoring an unbeaten 83 against the USA to complement a strong bowling performance - featuring a hat-trick from Chris Jordan.

However, they were unable to overcome India, who had been unstoppable thus far in the competition and have gone unbeaten from the start of their campaign. India scored 171/7, while England managed only 103 all out in response.

9.6 overs (0 Run) Short and honing in at the stumps from around the wicket, Liam Livingstone gets on the back foot and pushes it back to Jadeja.

9.5 overs (1 Run) This spins away a bit from the right-hander, short and outside off, Harry Brook hangs back and cuts it to deep cover for a single.

9.4 overs (1 Run) This is flat and short again, on off, Liam Livingstone rocks back and punches it square to deep point for one.

9.3 overs (1 Run) A bit slower and fuller as well, on off, Harry Brook drives it down to long off and gets to the other end.

9.2 overs (4 Runs) FOUR! Top shot! Jadeja serves it fractionally short, outside off, Harry Brook rocks on the back foot in a flash and slaps it past extra cover and beats deep cover to his right for a boundary.

9.1 overs (2 Runs) Speared in by Jadeja, short and on off, Harry Brook cuts it towards backward point where the fielder dives to his right and the single is always on. The fielder dives but parries the ball away from him, allowing the batters to take one more.

8.6 overs (1 Run) Drops it way too short and it is the googly again, outside off, Harry Brook reaches out and cuts it to deep point for just a single.

8.5 overs (1 Run) Slips in the googly now, short and on middle, Liam Livingstone reads it out of the hand and goes back in the crease to nurdle it past square leg for a single.

8.4 overs (0 Run) A bit of indecision but no harm done! Full and slanting in, on off, Liam Livingstone pushes it wide of point. Harry Brook sets off for the run but gets sent back. Jasprit Bumrah swoops in and fires in a throw towards Kuldeep Yadav at the bowling end but Brook is in by then.

8.3 overs (1 Run) This skids through, at the stumps and stays a bit low as well, Harry Brook works this length delivery to long on for a single.

8.2 overs (1 Run) Kuldeep loops it up, full and on off, Liam Livingstone presses forward and drives it down to long off for a single to get off the mark.

Liam Livingstone is the new batter in.

8.1 overs (0 Run) OUT! LBW! A huge appeal and the finger is raised! Sam Curran does opt for the review but that looked pretty straight at first glance. This is the flatter googly from Kuldeep Yadav that turns in sharply from around off and middle stump. Sam Curran gets pegged back and ends up playing all around it and gets hit in front of the stumps. Nothing on UltraEdge and Ball Tracking comes up with three reds. England have now lost half their side for under 50 runs and India are running through this batting order.

7.6 overs (0 Run) Flat and short, on off, Harry Brook rocks back and cuts it late but can't get it past the man at backward point. End of another successful over by Axar Patel.

7.5 overs (1 Run) Sliding on, short and on middle, Sam Curran turns it through backward square leg for a single.

7.4 overs (0 Run) Full and coming in with the angle, Sam Curran plays it off the front foot but straight to mid-wicket.

7.3 overs (1 Run) A bit fuller and angling in, at the stumps, Harry Brook flicks it off the front foot towards deep mid-wicket and takes an easy single.

7.2 overs (1 Run) Drops it short and on middle, clipped through mid-wicket for a single by Curran.

Sam Curran is the new man in.

7.1 overs (0 Run) OUT! STUMPED! Quick work by Rishabh Pant! England slip further. Not a wicket-taking delivery by Axar as this is too straight, on a nagging length, on the pads, Moeen Ali looks to tickle it fine off his pads but fails to get any bat on it. The ball thuds his thigh pad and rolls behind towards the keeper. Moeen Ali is unaware of where the ball has gone and wanders out for the run. The keeper, Rishabh Pant is alert as he collects it off the turf and whips the bails off in a jiffy. The third umpire is called into action and the replays confirm that even though Moeen turns around and tries to make the ground with his bat, he is short of his crease.

Is that stumped? It seems like some sharp glove work from Rishabh Pant behind the stumps has undone Moeen Ali here who lost his balance. The third umpire is called in and the replays clearly show that Ali's bat was in the air. OUT comes up on the big screen!

6.6 overs (4 Runs) FOUR! Excellently played! Kuldeep tosses it up but drags the length back, on off, Harry Brook reaches out in front and rolls his wrists on the ball. Nails the sweep to the right of deep mid-wicket for a boundary.

6.5 overs (1 Run) Fires it in, fuller and quicker, on the pads, Moeen Ali gets his bat out in front of the pads and tucks it on the leg side for a single.

6.4 overs (0 Run) Nicely bowled! Kuldeep imparts good revs on the ball and also slows it up, full and turning away, outside off, Moeen Ali pokes at the delivery and gets beaten on the outside edge as the ball spins past the bat.

6.3 overs (1 Run) Very full and on off, Harry Brook shows a straight bat and knocks it down to long off for one.

6.2 overs (0 Run) Gives the ball air again and keeps it full, at the stumps, Harry Brook drives it well but picks out the man at cover.

A slight halt in play as the umpire is seen having a chat with Rohit Sharma probably regarding Kuldeep Yadav running onto the wicket. Just a chat it seems, no warning.

6.1 overs (1 Run) Starts with a flighted delivery, full and on off, Moeen Ali gets a good stride in and pushes it to long off for a single.

Spin from both ends now as Kuldeep Yadav is brought into the attack.

5.6 overs (0 Run) Spears it in again but the length is fuller now, on off, Harry Brook hangs back and watchfully blocks it out on the off side. End of a successful Powerplay for India. At the end of 6 overs, England are 39/3.

5.5 overs (2 Runs) Aerial but safe! Flat and short, on middle, Harry Brook looks to get underneath it but gets this one off the toe-end of the bat but the ball drops safely to the right of long off for a couple of runs.

5.4 overs (1 Run) Comes from over the wicket for the left-hander and serves it full, on middle, Moeen Ali nudges it on the leg side and picks up an easy single.

5.3 overs (1 Run) Coming in with the angle again, fuller in length, on off, Harry Brook eases it to the left of the bowler and gets to the other end.

5.2 overs (0 Run) Another arm ball but the length is pulled back now, on off, Harry Brook defends it close to his body.

Harry Brook walks in with his side in a spot of real bother.

5.1 overs (0 Run) OUT! CASLTED! Axar Patel strikes again! Jonny Bairstow is flummoxed as he stands there looking back at the furniture disturbed behind him. Axar darts in an arm ball with a high-arm action from around the wicket, on a length and on the off pole, Jonny Bairstow stays leg side of the ball and pushes it away from his body. He plays for the non-existent turn as the ball keeps coming in with the angle and stays low as well as it sneaks past the angled bat to crash into the off stump.

Right then, India have the runs on the board but will it be enough against this strong English batting unit?

Liam Livingstone is down for a chat. He says that Jos told him to keep things simple and he tried to bowl into the pitch and get the batters to hit where they wanted them to. Adds that the surface looks good and there's not much going in the surface as the odd ball is keeping low. Reckons that they have firepower in the batting line up and hopefully, they can chase it down.

As for England, they will be pleased with their bowling effort. It was a decent start for them with a couple of wickets in the first six overs. Just as Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav were beginning to put them under pressure, the rain came at the right time, allowing them to regroup and reassess their plans. After the resumption, Jos Buttler was quick to introduce spin from both ends and neither Adil Rashid nor Liam Livingstone disappoint him. There were a couple of overs in the middle phase that went in excess of 10 runs but all in all, it was a job well done by England in the middle phase.

A decent finish to the innings for India! 24 runs came off the last 2 overs, taking India to 171. Having been put into bat by Jos Buttler, Virat Kohli had yet another short stay at the crease. His opening partner, Rohit Sharma struggled a bit initially for timing but he did not shy away from playing his shots. Coming in at the departure of Pant, Suryakumar Yadav made his intentions clear straight away. The two batters were able to get themselves in but rain came at an inopportune time and hampered the momentum of the Indian innings. After the resumption, Rohit and Suryakumar batted sensibly with the former going on to make his second straight fifty. The departure of both set batters pegged India back a bit but Hardik Pandya played a breezy cameo as did Ravindra Jadeja to take India past 170.

19.6 overs (1 Run) A single to end the first innings! Chris Jordan bowls it on a hard length and attacks the stumps. Arshdeep Singh tries to give himself room and swing at the ball but miscues it badly just on the leg side. The batters set off for the run but Jordan is quick to get to the ball. However, he is indecisive with the throw and ends up missing and under-arm effort at the bowler's end. Luckily, there's a man backing up and India don't get the extra run. India finish with 171/7 on the board!

Arshdeep Singh comes out to face the last ball.

19.5 overs (0 Run) OUT! CAUGHT! Chipped straight to the man in the deep! Chris Jordan keeps bowling back of a length and slower as well but straightens the line bowling it over middle and leg. Axar Patel tries to just get inside the line but gets cramped up and ends up getting it much higher on the bat than he would have liked. The ball goes straight up and carries to deep mid-wicket where Phil Salt comes in and takes a simple catch.

19.4 overs (6 Runs) SIX! One hand off the handle and yet Axar Patel gets enough on it to bring up the 500th six of the tournament. Slower one, banged into the deck and outside off. Axar gets a bit stuck and tries to reach out and swipe across the line but the ball goes off the top edge of the bat and carries over deep mid-wicket for a six.

19.3 overs (2 Runs) Into the pitch and slanted away from the left-hander, Axar Patel reaches out and hits it away in front of square on the off side before racing back for two. Liam Livingstone is the man in the deep who fires in a wide throw at the keeper's end.

19.2 overs (1 Run) Takes pace off again and bowls it a tad fuller and around off stump, Ravindra Jadeja is early on the drive and plays it away towards cover for just a single.

19.1 overs (2 Runs) Hits the deck hard and angles the ball well across the off stump at about 121 kph. It is the off-cutter, Ravindra Jadeja comes down the pitch and hammers it wide of deep extra cover and sprints back for the second run. A better throw at the bowler's end could have made things difficult for Axar Patel.

How much more can India get off this last over? It will be Chris Jordan to bowl the last over. Can he keep India under 170?

18.6 overs (0 Run) Much better ending to the over from Jofra Archer. Comes from around the stumps, clocks it well over 140 kph and spears the ball in at the toes. Axar Patel looks to shimmy down the pitch and open up the off side but is well beaten.

18.5 overs (1 Run) This is pitched up around the middle and leg stump line at 140.4 KPH, Ravindra Jadeja plays it on the up and pushes it down to long on for a single.

Jos Buttler walks up to Jofra Archer and the duo have a chat regarding the field setting. Archer changes his angle of attack as he comes around the wicket.

18.4 overs (4 Runs) FOUR! This is very smart batting from Ravindra Jadeja and the momentum shifts again. Too predictable from Jofra Archer as this is bowled slower and a bit fuller at the stumps, Jadeja gets down on one knee and just angles the sweep between square leg and backward square leg for another boundary. 11 off the over already, still 2 balls to go.

18.3 overs (2 Runs) There is an early call for two and they get it with ease, Ravindra Jadeja is rapid! Pace on this time, on a good length and outside off, hit away through cover-point for a couple of runs.

18.2 overs (4 Runs) FOUR! In the gap! Fractionally shorter but offering width outside the off stump, Ravindra Jadeja just reaches out and times the ball nicely, getting it behind point for a boundary. The 150 is now up for India.

18.1 overs (1 Run) Pace off, bowled on a good length and angled across the left-hander, Axar Patel taps the ball in front of square on the off side and picks up an easy single.

17.6 overs (1 Run) No hat-trick! On a hard length around off and angling across the batter, Axar Patel pushes it away to the right of Moeen Ali at covers and picks up a quick single.

Axar Patel walks in now. Chris Jordan is on a hat-trick now. Jordan already has a hat-trick to his name. It came against the USA. Can he join Pat Cummins as the second man to take back-to-back hat-tricks in this World Cup?

17.5 overs (0 Run) OUT! EDGED AND GONE! Two in two for Chris Jordan and all of a sudden, he's on a hat-trick! Jordan goes pace on, bowling it nice and full on off stump with the natural angle just slanting it across the left-hander. Shivam Dube is a bit tentative to get onto the front foot and just has a poke at it, getting a feather of an outside edge that goes straight into the mitts of Jos Buttler behind the stumps. Jordan is on a roll!

Shivam Dube makes his way out to the centre now.

17.4 overs (0 Run) OUT! CAUGHT! Third-time lucky for Chris Jordan and Hardik Pandya departs after a cameo. Jordan has the heart to pitch the ball up again and tries to get it wide enough of the off stump. Pandya holds his shape again but goes really hard at it and gets no elevation whatsoever. The ball flies off the bat but goes around waist height towards long off where Sam Curran takes a sharp catch and England get another timely wicket.

17.3 overs (6 Runs) SIX! That was a real 'hit-me' ball and Hardik Pandya has picked up a couple of sixes on the bounce! This is floated up full and outside the off stump, Pandya hangs deep and reaches out before smashing the ball flat and over a leaping Sam Curran at long off for another six. That pinged off Pandya's bat!

17.2 overs (6 Runs) SIX! Oh, that is sheer power from Hardik Pandya, stand and deliver! Chris Jordan looks to bowl the slower one into the pitch and angle it in from around off but it sits up for the batter. Pandya holds his shape, clears the front leg and swats it flat and wide of long on for a biggie.

17.1 overs (2 Runs) Slightly back of a length and around off stump, Hardik Pandya stands tall, waits for the ball and punches it with a high elbow through extra cover before coming back for the second run.

16.6 overs (1 Run) Oh, that could have gone anywhere! Bowls it flatter now and tightens the line around off stump, Hardik Pandya rocks back to cut but chops the ball down and it goes through Jos Buttler. They pick up a single.

16.6 overs (1 Run) WIDE! Slower and shorter, pushed well outside the off stump, a bit too wide and Hardik Pandya leaves it alone.

16.5 overs (1 Run) Goes full again and bowls it wide of the off stump, Ravindra Jadeja hits it fimly and through covers for a run.

16.4 overs (1 Run) Slows it up and drags the length right back, bowling it well wide of the off stump, Hardik Pandya tries to reach out and go hard at it but mistimes it again. The ball goes to long off and they get just another single.

16.3 overs (1 Run) Comes from around the stumps and bowls with the off-spin grip to the left-hander. This is fired in quite full and around off, Ravindra Jadeja drives it down to long off for one more.

16.2 overs (1 Run) Tosses the ball up again, full as well but throws it well outside off, Hardik Pandya with the big wind-up trying to heave it away but he completely miscues it off the toe end of the bat in front of mid-wicket for a single.

16.1 overs (0 Run) Tosses this one up very full and gets it to dip on the batter, Hardik Pandya hangs back and jams it out from the leg peg back to the bowler who makes a good stop.

15.6 overs (1 Run) Takes a lot of pace off this one and bowls it into the pitch around off, the ball sticks in the deck and Hardik Pandya has to wait back before tucking it around the corner for a run.

15.5 overs (1 Run) Bowls it short now and from around the stumps to the left-hander. This is bowled at 141 kph and angled into the body, Ravindra Jadeja leans back and pulls it flat to deep square leg for one.

Ravindra Jadeja comes out to bat now.

15.4 overs (0 Run) OUT! CAUGHT! Chris Jordan with one of the safest pairs of hands and both set batters are back to the hut for India. Skillful from Jofra Archer though as he bowls this one from the back of the hand and serves it a tad fuller outside off stump. Suryakumar Yadav tries to get under the ball and lift it over long on but loses his balance and is early into the shot. The ball gets lofted quite high in the air towards the long on fence where Jordan settles under it and takes a solid catch under pressure. England sniffing a chance of a comeback here.

15.3 overs (1 Run) Just short of a good length and over the stumps, Hardik Pandya gets cramped for room this time and jams it out on the off side for a single.

15.2 overs (4 Runs) FOUR! Smashed away by Hardik Pandya! Trying to bowl it into the pitch and outside off but serves it short, Pandya latches onto the ball and cuts it with immense power in front of point for a boundary.

15.1 overs (1 Run) Bowled back of a length and slower too outside the line of off stump, Suryakumar Yadav stays back and slaps the ball in front of point for a quick single.

"Bambai Se...": Rashid's Special Post Featuring Rohit After T20 WC Heroics

Rashid Khan-led Afghanistan defeated Bangladesh in a thrilling match to qualify in the historic first-ever T20 World Cup semi-finals. Afghanistan defeated Najmul Shanto's Bangladesh by 8 runs using the DLS system, eliminating one of the favourites, Australia, from the race for the semi-final. After impressive triumphs over T20I cricket giants such as New Zealand and Australia during the same T20 World Cup run, Rashid's Afghanistan made it to the last four. The Afghan spin maestro Rashid played a significant role in this victory by not only confusing the Australian hitters with his deliveries but also engaging in some fun banter with Indian captain Rohit Sharma.

Afghanistan captain took to social media on Tuesday to share a photo with his Indian opponent Rohit after both teams advanced to the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 semifinals.

Following the match, Rashid posted a message on Instagram that read: "Bambai se aaya mera dost [My friend from Mumbai has arrived]," a clever allusion to Rohit Sharma, who is from Mumbai, and how India and Afghanistan collaborated to remove Australia.

Afghanistan defeated Bangladesh by 8 runs in their final Super 8s match to eliminate Australia and become the second team, after India, to reach the elimination stage from Group 1. This is the first time Afghanistan has reached the semifinals of a global tournament.

India had made Australia's qualification more difficult by defeating them just hours earlier in Saint Lucia. Afghanistan was placed second following their surprising victory over Australia a few days previously.

Coming to the match that Afghanistan will always remember, Rashid Khan and Naveen-ul-Haq led the Afghan bowling attack and helped their side defend the given target of 115. The second inning of the match was reduced to 19 overs, and the target was 114 runs after Rain played a spoilsport in the second inning.

After the defeat, Mitchell Marsh-led Australia are also out of the tournament. The Aussies ended up in third place in the Group 1 table of the Super Eights with just two points.

Afghanistan booked their place in the final four when they overcame Bangladesh's fight in the final game of the Super Eights in St Vincent. After scoring 115/5 in the first innings, Afghanistan bowled out Bangladesh for 105 in a rain-affected game, securing an 8-run win (DLS method).

Naib Faces Ban For 'Faking Injury' In T20 World Cup? ICC Rule Says This

The Afghanistan vs Bangladesh T20 World Cup game saw a controversial moment, when Afghanistan' Gulbadin Naib fell on the ground], apparently due to injury. Naib, who was fielding in the slip cordon, complained of cramps during the 12th over bowled by spinner Noor Ahmad, after Trott was seen on camera asking his players to slow down as Bangladesh had fallen behind on the Duckworth-Lewis par score in the rain-hit Super 8 clash.

The match saw frequent rain interruptions and Bangladesh, at that stage, were 81 for 7, two runs behind on the DLS par score in a revised chase of 114 in 19 overs. Afghans eventually prevailed by eight runs to enter their maiden World Cup semifinal.

"The coach sends a message out to say slow it down, slow it down and the first slip just dives on the ground needlessly. That is unacceptable. Gone off anyway. I get that might have gone off anyway for the rain," said Simon Doull while commentating.

Zimbabwean commentator Pommie Mbangwa quipped: "Oscar, Emmy?".

Naib was given treatment and was taken off the field by teammate Naveen-ul-Haq and a support staff as it started raining again and players ran to the dugout.

"Kabi khushi kabi gham main huta hai (It happens sometimes when you are happy or when you are sad). Hamstring," Naib later said in a post on X, dotted with laughing emojis.

So, can Naib be banned if he was faking injury?

According to ICC's Code of Conduct, 'time-wasting' is deemed a level 1 or 2 offense under Article 2.10.7. For Level 1 offense, maximum punishment is 100% match-fee fine and two suspension points. If a player is gioven four suspension points in one year, may be banned for either one Test match or two ODIs or T20Is.

Additionally, according to Article 41.9 of the ICC's playing conditions for T20Is, a bowler or a fielder's time-wasting technique is liable to be punished with a five-run penalty. The umpire has the authority to do so, but in the Afghanistan vs Bangladesh T20 World Cup match such a thing was not given.

There is a provision for invetigation after the game if a timewasting is found to be deliberate. "If the umpires believe that the act of time wasting was deliberate or repetitive, they may lodge a report under the ICC Code of Conduct. In such circumstances the Captain and/or any individual members of the fielding team responsible for the time wasting will be charged," according to the ICC playing conditions.

No such news has come so far that the match officials and ICC are opening an investigation against Naib. Also, Naib has said that he was facing injury issues, which makes it difficult to prove that the time-wasting was deliberate.

How Can Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh Qualify For T20 WC Semi-finals

The T20 World Cup semi-final race in Group 1 has become really interesting. India became the first team from the group to enter the semi-finals as they beat the Mitchell March-led  Australia by 24 runs on Monday. However, the other three teams in the group are not out. The points table is as follows - India (6 points, 3 games, NRR +2.017), Australia (2 points, 3 games, NRR -0.331), Afghanistan (2 points, 2 matches, NRR -0.650), Bangladesh (0 points, 2 matches, NRR -2.489).

Now, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Australia can qualify for semi-finals. Following are the scenarios:

1. Afghanistan can enter the semi-finals with a win over Bangladesh. That way they will reach 4 points and be the second team from Group 1 of Super 8 to enter last four stage.

2. Australia can enter semi-finals only if Afghanistan lose to Bangladesh with a margin of less than 61 runs (considering the first innings total is 160) or outside 13 overs.

3. Bangladesh can enter semi-finals only if they beat Afghanistan by a big margin (by 61 runs if they score 160 or chase the target in 13 overs)

Talking about Monday's match that Australia lost, India rode on skipper Rohit Sharma's scintillating 41-ball 92 to beat Australia by 24 runs in their final Super Eights fixture and qualify for the semifinals of the T20 World Cup.

Batting first, Rohit fired on all cylinders and struck as many as eight sixes and seven fours during his sparkling knock, which powered India to an imposing 205 for five.

In reply, Australia were restricted to 181 for seven in the stipulated 20 overs. Travis Head top-scored for Australia with 76 off 43 balls.

Among Indian bowlers, Kuldeep Yadav (2/24) performed brilliantly in the middle overs, while Arshdeep Singh ended with figures of 3/37.

Earlier, unperturbed by Virat Kohli's early dismissal, Rohit went after pacer Mitchell Starc and bludgeoned him for 29 runs in his second over, setting the tone for India.

Starc, who was taken to the cleaners by Rohit, returned to dismiss the India captain and give some relief to the Australian camp.

But Suryakumar Yadav (31 off 16 balls) and Shivam Dube (28 off 22) kept up the tempo with their big hits before Hardik Pandya (27 off 17) finished the India innings in style.

Gambhir Sets Bold 'Kohli, Rohit CT 2025' Condition For Coach Job: Report

Gautam Gambhir has been heavily linked with the job to become the next head coach of the Indian men's cricket team. With current boss Rahul Dravid's contract set to expire after the ongoing T20 World Cup, Gambhir was the only candidate to apply for the job, as per multiple reports. The former India opener was interviewed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)'s Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) last week, where Gambhir presented some of his demands to the board.

However, Navbharat Times has now reported that during his interview with the CAC, Gambhir laid down not one but five conditions to accept BCCI's proposal.

Gambhir demanded that he will have full control of the cricketing operations of the team, without any interference from the board.

Secondly, the two-time World Cup winner will pick his own support staff, including batting, fielding and bowling coaches.

Thirdly, and most importantly, the 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan could be the last opportunity for four senior players -- Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammad Shami.

If these players fail to help India win the tournament, they would be dropped from the team. However, there was no mention of the players being discarded from all three formats.

As far as the fourth condition is concerned, there will be a separate team in Test cricket.

Lastly, Gambhir will start preparing a roadmap for the 2027 ODI World Cup from the get-go.

While it is pretty clear if the four senior players -- Virat, Rohit, Jadeja and Shami -- will be dropped from the team if they don't perform in the 2025 Champions Trophy, the question remains if the players will continue to play red ball cricket.

Kohli and Rohit's future has already been uncertain, and with Gambhir's name linked with the India head coach job, it won't be a big surprise that the two veterans could be overlooked for selection.

It is also worth noting that India could feature in the World Test Championship final next year. There could be a possibility of them getting dropped if India don't win the Test mace next time around.

India have lost the last two World Test Championship finals to New Zealand (2021) and Australia (2023), respectively.

Hardik Becomes 1st Indian To Achieve This Rare Feat In T20 WC History

Star India all-rounder Hardik Pandya became the first Indian player to achieve a unique double in ICC T20 World Cup history during his side's match in the Super 8s against Bangladesh on Saturday. During the game, Hardik became the first-ever Indian to have 300-plus runs and 20-plus wickets in the tournament history. While batting, Pandya made a full-fledged return to batting form on a batting-friendly surface, making 50 in 27 balls, with four boundaries and three sixes. His runs came at a strike rate of 185.19. While bowling, he got a crucial wicket from wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das.

In his T20 World Cup career, Pandya has scored 302 runs in 21 matches and 13 innings at an average of 27.45 and a strike rate of 137.89. He has also scored two half-centuries, with the best score of 63. Also, he has taken 21 wickets in these 21 games, with the best figures of 3/27.

Pakistan's Shahid Afridi (546 runs and 39 wickets in 34 games), Bangladesh's Shakib al Hasan (853 runs and 50 wickets in 42 matches), West Indies' Dwayne Bravo (530 runs and 27 wickets in 27 matches), Australia's Shane Watson (537 runs and 22 wickets in 24 matches) are other players to have accomplished this feat.

Coming to the match, Bangladesh won the toss and opted to field first. Openers skipper Rohit Sharma (23 in 11 balls, with three fours and a six) and Virat Kohli (37 in 28 balls, with a four and three sixes) put on an attacking 39-run opening stand. After early dismissals of the openers and Suryakumar Yadav (6), India was restricted to 77/3 in 8.3 overs. Then, wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant (36 in 24 balls, with four boundaries and two sixes), Shivam Dube (34 in 24 balls, with three sixes) and Hardik Pandya (50* in 27 balls, with four boundaries and three sixes) pushed India to 196/5 in their 20 overs.

Dube-Pandya had a fine 53-run stand for the fifth wicket.

Tanzim Hasan Sakib (2/32) and Rashid Hossain (2/43) were the top bowlers for Bangladesh.

India needs to defend 197 runs to win and have a foot in the door for the semis.

India is in second place in Group 1 of Super Eights, with a win against Afghanistan and two points. Bangladesh is at the bottom place, having lost their game against Australia. This one is a crucial game for them to keep their Super Eights hopes alive while India will pretty much reach the semifinals with a win over Bangladesh.

5.5 overs (1 Run) Goes full this time and it is outside off, Najmul Hossain Shanto reaches out for the drive but gets an outside edge that flies down to deep third for one.

5.4 overs (0 Run) Takes pace off and keeps it full as well, on middle, Najmul Hossain Shanto waits on it and defends it out on the off side.

5.3 overs (0 Run) Hurls it on a back of a length, on off, Najmul Hossain Shanto gets on top of the bounce and pushes it to backward point.

5.2 overs (1 Run) DROPPED! Rishabh Pant puts it down! That should have been taken! Jasprit Bumrah has his hands on his head in disbelief. Angling away, on a hard length, zipping through, on off, Tanzid Hasan fiddles at the delivery and gets an outside edge that travels quickly to Rishabh Pant who gets his gloves in the correct position but fails to hang on as the ball comes on faster than he expected. It bursts through his gloves and rolls behind for a single.

5.1 overs (2 Runs) Oh, Bumrah is lucky to get away with that! The ball slips off Bumrah's hand and ends up serving a waist-high full toss, outside off, Tanzid Hasan dabs it wide of point for a couple of runs. The replays indicate that the ball was just above the waist but the umpire thought otherwise.

Kyle Mayers To Join Windies Squad As Replacement For Injured Brandon King

The International Cricket Council (ICC) approved Kyle Mayers as the replacement for West Indies opener Brandon King in the ongoing T20 World Cup. King was ruled out of the remainder of the competition after he sustained a side strain during their clash against England in the Super 8. "The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 has approved left-handed batter Kyle Mayers as a replacement for Brandon King in the West Indies squad. The replacement of a player requires the approval of the Event Technical Committee before the player can be officially added to the squad," ICC said in a statement.

For the rest of the tournament, the left-handed opener will feature for the co-hosts. He is expected to join the squad on Saturday.

During the game against England on Wednesday, King was flying high in the powerplay. He raced 23 in just 12 deliveries and started to lay the foundation for a 200-plus total for the West Indies.

He smoked the ball out of the stadium with a 101-metre six off Reece Topley, resulting in a replacement ball.

But he got injured in the 13th delivery of his knock. He charged down the pitch to hit Sam Curran through the cover region.

King went one more step before collapsing and being forced to quit injured after receiving care from a West Indies medical staff member.

King did not field in England's run chase of 181, with Shimron Hetmyer filling in as a substitute fielder, and Cricket West Indies released a statement to confirm he suffered a side strain.

West Indies went on to lose the game, with Jonny Bairstow and Philip Salt propelling the Three Lions to a thumping 8-wicket win.

King getting ruled out of the tournament has put a big dent in West Indies' chances of lifting the coveted title.

He has been the leading run-scorer for the Caribbean side in T20Is since the beginning of 2023. King has racked up 651 runs in 23 innings, which includes four fifties.

His replacement, Mayers, has enjoyed a decent run in 2024. The left-handed opener has featured in 11 T20I games this year and amassed 367 runs at an impressive strike rate of 155.50.

During the build-up to the World Cup, King was also the highest run-getter in West Indies' 3-0 T20I series sweep over South Africa.

West Indies went unbeaten in the group stage, but their streak ended after England inflicted a defeat in the first game of Super 8.

They will look to secure a spot in the final four with wins over the USA and South Africa.

South Africa Eke Out 7-Run Win Over England, Get Closer To T20 WC Semis

Quinton de Kock made a coruscating fifty and bowlers responded bravely to the challenge of defending a sub-par total as South Africa thwarted a late England surge to eke out a tight seven-run win in their Group 2 Super Eight match in the T20 World Cup at Gros Islet, St Lucia on Friday. England had done well to keep South Africa to 163/6 in spite of De Kock's 38-ball 65, but lost their way despite a spirited fightback from Harry Brook (53) and Liam Livingstone (33). They eventually finished at 156 for six.

South Africa's perfection in executing their plans of taking the pace off the ball corresponded with England's refusal to show intent as the defending champions did not find a single boundary between the fifth and the 12th over.

Brook and Livingstone did extremely well to stage a fightback to bring England back into the game but South Africa held their nerves, despite making plenty of errors, to keep their winning run in this World Cup intact.

England were still significantly far from target needing 46 runs to win from the final four overs but Ottneil Baartman, who had been measly throughout the group stage, sent down plenty of full-tosses as 21 runs were knocked off in the 17th over.

But Kagiso Rabada (2/32) stamped his class as he had Livingstone (33 off 17b, 3x4s, 2x6s) caught at deep backward square leg in the 18th over.

Marco Jansen then allowed only seven runs in the penultimate over to leave England needing 14 runs off the final over, in which Anrich Nortje (1/35) did well to remove Brooks and seal Proteas' win.

Brook and Livingstone came together in the 11th over with England needing 103 to win from 58 balls. They added 78 from 42 but it was not enough as England paid a heavy price for being meek in the beginning.

Reeza Hendricks deserved all credits for pulling a catch out of thin air, putting a stunning effort at extra cover while diving to his left after Phil Salt (11) hit one hard against Rabada in the second over.

With Salt was dismissed early, England were neither quick off the blocks nor did they change approach to counter South African tactics.

Jonny Bairstow (17) failed to make the most of a lifeline given to him when Heinrich Klaasen dropped a regulation catch running in from backward square leg off Rabada in the third over.

However, with South African bowlers keeping it tight another chance came their way when Keshav Maharaj lured Bairstow to slash one wide of the off-stump and the batter obliged by hitting in the air. Nortje grabbed the chance.

The wily Maharaj then foxed England skipper Jos Buttler by taking the pace off a delivery which he hit straight to deep midwicket, where Klaasen did not make any mistake.

Moeen Ali (9) was bounced out by Baartman with Maharaj taking the catch as England skidded to 61 for four around the halfway mark.

Earlier, South Africa squandered a blistering start by Quinton de Kock (65) as England managed to keep the Proteas to a low total.

With De Kock (68, 4x4, 4x6) going hammer and tongs to take the scoring rate to nearly 10 an over for most of their first half, England fought back hard with regular wickets courtesy excellent fielding which remained the highlight of their effort.

Apart from De Kock's fireworks, David Miller's late resistance, 43 off 28 balls (4x4, 2x6), saved SA the blushes.

From 86 for no loss at one stage, South Africa had slipped to 113 for four by the 15th over, losing the momentum.

Amid the steady fall of wickets at one end, Miller held his ground and his late charge helped South Africa go past the 150-mark.

Suryakumar, Bumrah Guide India To 47-Run Victory Over Afghanistan

Suryakumar Yadav played fearlessly on a testing surface before India tightened the noose around Afghanistan with a clinical bowling performance to script a commanding 47-run win in their opening Super 8 fixture of the T20 World Cup on Thursday. Rashid Khan (3/26) improved his ordinary record against India before Suryakumar (53 off 28) played like he only can to take his team to 181 for 8 after India decided to bat on a surface where it was difficult to hit through the line. Afghanistan were never in the run chase and folded up for 134 in exactly 20 overs. The questionable shot selection from the Afghan batters contributed to their downfall, extending their winless run against India.

Jasprit Bumrah (3/7 in four overs) was too good for the opposition again while Kuldeep Yadav (2/32), playing his first game of the tournament, also made an impact.

India's next Super 8 fixture against Bangladesh will take place in in Antigua on Saturday.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz (11 off 8), who announced his intent with a six and four off Arshdeep Singh, went for a rash shot against Bumrah in the second over of the innings to be caught behind.

Hazratullah Zazai, brought into the squad in place of the injured Mujeeb Zadran, was Bumrah's next victim as his attempted flick off a cutter from the Indian pace spearhead went straight into the safe hands of Ravindra Jadeja at backward point.

Kuldeep, who replaced Mohammed Siraj in the playing eleven, operated in the middle overs and sent back Gulbadin Naib (17) with a wrong one in the 11th over.

Azmatullah Omarzai (26 off 20) was the top-scored for Afghanistan. The fall of wickets through the innings did not allow Afghanistan to get back in the game.

Earlier, Suryakumar was back to his nonchalant best and picked the boundaries at will on a track where the other batters struggled to get going. The other notable contributions came from Rishabh Pant (20 off 11), who too found the boundaries from the word go and Hardik Pandya (32 off 24).

Virat Kohli (24 off 24) got into the double digits for the first time in this tournament but was dismissed just when he was getting set.

Rashid (3/26), who had not picked up a wicket against India prior to this game, struck in his first three overs to put pressure on the opposition.

India expectedly opt to bat at the Kensington Oval and the way the ball held up on the pitch early one, it seemed playing through the line will be tough.

Skipper Rohit Sharma (8) tried to push the scoring rate in third over from Fazalhaq Farooqi (3/33) but was caught at mid-on after finding the toe end of his bat.

Rashid brought himself on right after the Powerplay with India reaching 47 for one. The star spinner sent back the dangerous Pant in the seventh over. The southpaw once again was not afraid to employ the sweep and audacious reverse sweep against the spinners before eventually falling to Rashid.

After Kohli was caught at long-off in Rashid's second over, India felt the heat. Suryarkumar eased the tension with a flurry of sweeps against Rashid before the spinner got his third scalp in the form of Shivam Dube (10), who was trapped in front after the ball turned back in sharply and crashed into his back leg.

Surya kept finding the big hits from the other end. He outrageously whipped a wide full toss from Azmatullah Omarzai to deep square-leg before a six and four off Farooqi took him to a well made half-century.

After Surya's departure, Hardik then got into the act and hammered the ball into the stands on couple of occasions. His straight six off left-arm spinner Noor Ahmed was all brute power, almost shattering the window of the press box. In the end, India did well to post their highest total at the historic venue which in the end proved to be unassailable.
