"But Who Knows...": Ex-India Star's Sensational Prediction For Rinku Singh

Former Indian cricket team fast bowler Ashish Nehra was all praise for Rinku Singh following his tremendous form in the ongoing T20I series against Australia. Rinku proved his mettle as a finisher for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and he was brilliant in the second T20I match as he slammed 31 off just 9 deliveries. Nehra called Rinku a major asset for the Indian cricket team and said that although he is restricted to T20I cricket right now, a consistent showing may find the explosive left-handed batter a place in the team for ODI cricket as well.

"This is not the first time he has done it. We all have been discussing his role, his power. Not just about his batting, even with the way he throws himself on the field, it shows he is a great team man. He will be a great asset to Indian cricket. Yes, we are talking only about T20 cricket, but who knows tomorrow he can also be playing ODI cricket," Nehra said on JioCinema.

Nehra also emphasised on the fact that he is not a big fan of the word 'finisher' and explained that Rinku can even play at No. 4 or 5 if he can improve his game.

“I am not a big fan of the word 'finisher'. Your opener can be a finisher, if he scores a hundred, he can finish the game and come back. At times, it can be harsh. Let me give you an example, if the same Rinku Singh doesn't finish the game once or twice. Coming back to Rinku Singh, he is someone who can even play up the order, I can see him playing in 50-over cricket going forward. He can bat at No. 4, No. 5 or No. 6,” Nehra explained.

"On any odd day, the Indian team can be 40 for 4 in 5-6 overs. And I hope Rinku Singh is ready to play any role, I hope he doesn't want to be tagged himself as a finisher. He should be looking to excel in all departments," he added.

"You Don't Want...: Gambhir's Honest Take On Dravid's Contract Extension

Former India opener player Gautam Gambhir applauded the contract extension of Rahul Dravid as Team India's head coach and believes it is promising news for the national side as the "T20 World Cup is around the corner." The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday announced the extension of contracts for Dravid and the support staff of Team India (Senior Men). Dravid's second stint with Team India will be the tour of South Africa from December 10, which will have three ODIs and T20Is each and two Tests. The red-ball leg will start from December 26. Following that will be a five-match Test series against England at home, before the ICC T20 World Cup in June in West Indies/USA.

Gambhir expects Team India to continue its domination and play good cricket. The former opener emphasises that the T20 format is different it will be challenging and hope that Rahul and the supporting staff can deliver.

Batting coach Vikram Rathour, fielding coach T Dilip and bowling coach Paras Mhambrey will continue their stint with Team India as BCCI also extended contracts of the support staff of Team India.

"It's a good thing because the T20 World Cup is around the corner and you don't want to change the entire support staff, and it is good that Rahul has accepted it. Hopefully, we can continue to dominate and play good cricket, what India has done for a long period of time. The T20 format is different and challenging and hopefully, Rahul and the support staff can deliver. Congratulations to them," Gambhir told ANI.

Dravid replaced Ravi Shastri following a disappointing ICC T20 World Cup campaign in 2021, which saw India exit in the Super 12 stage. He was appointed for a two-year term, which ended with India's runners-up finish in the recently concluded ICC Cricket World Cup at home.

On the contract extension, Dravid said, "The last two years with Team India have been thoroughly memorable. Together, we have witnessed the highs and lows, and throughout this journey, the support and camaraderie within the group have been phenomenal. I am genuinely proud of the culture we have set in the dressing room. It's a culture that stands resilient, whether in moments of triumph or adversity. The skills and talent that our team possesses are phenomenal, and what we've stressed is following the right process and sticking to our preparations, which has had a direct impact on the overall result."

"I thank the BCCI and the Office Bearers for placing their trust in me, endorsing my vision, and providing support during this period. The demands of this role necessitate considerable time away from home, and I deeply appreciate my family's sacrifices and support. Their instrumental role behind the scenes has been invaluable. As we embrace new challenges post the World Cup, we remain committed to the pursuit of excellence," he added.

Watch: 16 Needed Off 4 balls, Glenn Maxwell Unleashes Mayhem vs Prasidh

It was Glenn Maxwell show yet again at an Indian cricket ground. This time the venue was the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati and Indian cricket team was at the receiving end. India posted a huge 223-run target for Australia. While the visitors lost wickets at regular intervals, they stayed in chase with Glenn Maxwell playing the lead role. The Australia star scored 104* off just 48 balls, with eight fours and eight sixes. But what he did in the last over by Prasidh Krishna is going to be remembered for a long time to come.

Australia needed 21 runs off six balls to win. On the first ball of the last over by Prasidh Krishna, Australia captain Matthew wade hit a boundary and then took a single. The equation was then 16 needed off four balls. Maxwell first hit a six and then three straight fours to take Australia to their first win of the five-match series.

Talking about the game, Glenn Maxwell's fiery unbeaten hundred carried Australia to a five-wicket win over India in the third T20I in Guwahati on Tuesday.

With this win, Australia managed to cut India's series lead to 2-1 in the five-match rubber. Maxwell made 104 off 48 balls (8x4, 8x6) as the Aussies went past India's 222 for 3 in the last ball of the match.

Skipper Matthew Wade remained not out on a crucial 28 off 16 balls. Leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi took two wickets for India.

Earlier, Ruturaj Gaikwad's maiden international hundred was the cornerstone of India's big total. Gaikwad made a rollicking unbeaten 123 off 57 balls.

Brief scores: India: 222 for 3 in 20 overs (Ruturaj Gaikwad 123 not out, Suryakumar Yadav 39, Tilak Varma 31 not out; Jason Behrendorff 1/12) lost to Australia: 225 for 5 in 20 overs (Glenn Maxwell 104 not out, Matthew Wade 28 not out, Ravi Bishnoi 2/32) by 5 wickets.

"Said Sorry To Ruturaj": Jaiswal Opens Up On Gaikwad's Bizarre Dismissal

Team India thrashed Australia by 44 runs in the second T20I of the five-match series on Sunday in Thiruvananthapuram. The main architects of India's victory were opening batters Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj, who scored 53 and 58 runs respectively and propelled India to a whopping total of 235/4. Later, the hosts restricted Australia at 191/9 with Ravi Bishnoi and Prasidh Krishna taking three wickets each. It was a memorable match for Jaiswal, who brought up his half-century in just 24 balls.

After the match, Jaiswal spoke about the tragic mix-up which handed Gaikwad his diamond duck in the first T20I on Thursday. In the first match, Jaiswal and Gaikwad were caught in a mix-up while trying to take a double. Resulting which, Gaikwad had to depart without even playing a ball.

Jaiswal revealed that he admitted his mistake and went on to apologize to Gaikwad. He also praised his co-opener for being "humble" and "caring".

"It was my mistake in the last game and said sorry to Ruturaj. Accepted was my mistake. Rutu bhai is so humble and very caring," said Jaiswal in a post-match presentation.

About this win, he said, "It was really special for me. I was trying to play all my shots. Was trying to be fearless. I was sure of my decisions. I have been told by Surya bhai and VVS sir to go and play freely. I have been asked to express myself. For me, what I think I can develop and not think about anything else."

Talking about the match, opener Jaiswal led the charge of India's young brigade with a sparkling 53 off 25 balls, guiding India to a massive 235 for four in the company of Ishan (52 off 32 balls) and Gaikwad (58 off 43 balls).

Leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi (3/32) then muffled the Australian top-order with two quick blows, and the visitors were eventually limited to 191 for nine despite aggressive knocks by Tim David (37 off 22 balls) and Marcus Stoinis (45 off 25 balls).

Pacer Prasidh Krishna grabbed three wickets to accentuate Australia's fall as they lost five wickets for 16 runs.

Both the teams will now meet again on Tuesday for the third T20I match of the five-match series in Guwahati.

Ravichandran Ashwin Hails India Star, Calls Him "Junior Mohammed Shami"

Veteran Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin heaped praise on pacer Mukesh Kumar, calling him 'Junior Shami'. While speaking on his official YouTube channel, Ashwin said that when he first met Mohammed Siraj, he thought the 29-year-old would become the junior of Mohammed Shami. However, Ashwin's mind changed after he was Mukesh Kumar and now he felt that the 30-year-old can be the younger version of the most takers in the ODI World Cup 2023.

Ashwin added that Mukesh has a similar build, height, and wrist position to the 33-year-old.

Ashwin further hails Mukesh and says that he has that great whip of the wrist and terrific backspin on the ball.

"I initially thought Mohammad Siraj would become the junior Shami, but I now feel it could be Mukesh Kumar. Shami is called 'Lala' and as a tribute to the actor Mohanlal who is called Lalettan, I call Shami Lalettan. Mukesh has a similar build, similar height, and outstanding wrist position - he has that great whip of the wrist and terrific backspin on the ball. He has a very nice straight and nice alignment," Ashwin said.

The number one Test bowler also recalled about the time when Waqar Younis changed Mukesh's career just by seeing his two deliveries.

"Imagine, you are going to bowl in front of Waqar Younis, and you were at the toilet. They had called out his name but he wasn't there! He returned, waited for 30 minutes and told them that his name wasn't called out. It was then that Waqar Younis, who was about to leave, told him to bowl a couple of balls. Those two deliveries changed his life and he is now bowling for India," Ashwin added.

Mukesh made his international debut for India on July 20, 2023, following which he has appeared in 10 matches for India and has bagged nine wickets.

The 30-year-old has been included in the five-match T20I series against Australia. In the first game of the series, Mukesh failed to take any wickets but gave only 29 runs.

2nd T20I: India Beat Australia By 44 Runs, Take 2-0 Lead In 5-Match Series

Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ishan Kishan and Ruturaj Gaikwad gave a telling manifestation of their talent with twinkling fifties, the catalyst of India's 44-run win over Australia in the second T20I in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday. India are now leading the five-match series 2-0. Opener Jaiswal led the charge of India's young brigade with a sparkling 53 off 25 balls, guiding India to a massive 235 for four in the company of Ishan (52 off 32 balls) and Gaikwad (58 off 43 balls).

Australia needed to score at 11.8 runs per over to hunt down India's total. Openers Matthew Short and Steve Smith made an urgent beginning, procuring 31 runs in the first two overs.

But Bishnoi jettisoned Short in the third over and Josh Inglis, who made a hundred in the first match at Visakhapatnam, in the fifth over as Australia slipped to 39 for two.

It soon transpired to 58 for four after Smith fell to Prasidh and left-arm spinner Axar Patel gobbled up Glenn Maxwell, as the Indian bowlers produced a disciplined effort.

However, Australia found some fight through David and Stoinis, who pummelled the Indian attack for 81 runs for an entertaining fifth wicket stand that came in just above seven overs.

Both David and Stoinis are capable of clearing the fence at will, and the Aussie duo did exactly that.

David hammered pacer Mukesh Kumar for 19 runs in the 10th over as Australia made 104 for 4 in the 10 overs and looked good for a comeback.

But Bishnoi bagged the crucial wicket of David, who lifted him to Gaikwad at long-on.

Stoinis too did not last long as his attempted heave off Mukesh ended with Axar near the straight boundary.

From that point, an Indian victory was a mere formality.

But for all that, the Indian camp should profusely thank three young, talented batters - Jaiswal, Kishan and Gaikwad.

Australian captain Matthew Wade's decision to bowl first keeping in mind the dew factor did not pay off as his bowlers faltered against the Indian troika.

The ball came off the pitch a tad slow but the Aussie bowlers were wayward, offering width to Indian batsmen.

They were happy to oblige, especially Jaiswal. He took on Sean Abbot in a breathtaking fashion.

The Australian pacer rightly took the pace off his deliveries but he erred in the line and length, offering a chance for the Indian opener to free his hands.

In the fourth over, the left-hander punished Abbot with a sequence of 4, 4, 4, 6, 6 for 24 runs, coming through two square cuts, a late cut and two pulls as India motored on in the Power Play segment which produced 71 runs.

Jaiswal brought up his fifty in 24 balls, but he could not extend the innings as a rather wild slash off pacer Nathan Ellis was grabbed by Adam Zampa at backward square leg.

But that did not really affect the Indian innings as Gaikwad combined with Kishan, who made his second fifty in as many matches, to garner 87 runs for a bruising second wicket alliance.

After the return of Jaiswal, the visitors might have hoped to slow down India's march, but the right-hand-left-hand combination never allowed them to dictate the pace of the match. India touched 101 for 1 after 10 overs.

India progressed at around 11.5 runs per over in the middle phase of the innings despite spinners Zampa and Tanveer Sangha bowling relatively better spells.

Kishan reached his half-century in 29 balls with a massive pulled six off leg-spinner Sangha over mid-wicket.

Gaikwad, whose lofted shot over bowler Zampa's head was a treat to watch, too reached his fifty off 39 balls with a double off pacer Ellis.

It might appear an industrious innings, but Gaikwad's solidity allowed others to launch into the Australian attack.

Kishan too could not build on his innings as he lost balance while trying to wallop Stoinis out of the ground, hoicking a simple catch to Ellis in the deep.

However, Rinku Singh chipped in with his customary cameo (31 off 9 balls) and ensured that India finished strongly.

The left-handed Rinku robbed 25 runs off the 19th over bowled by Abbot as he leaked 56 runs off three overs in total.

The final over bowled by Ellis went for 20 runs as India reached a total that remained out of Aussies' reach.

Rajasthan Royals' Joe Root Opts Out Of Indian Premier League 2024

England batter Joe Root has opted out of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, announced his franchise Rajasthan Royals on Saturday. "England batter Joe Root will not be taking any further participation in the IPL, it was confirmed on Saturday," said a statement from the team. Root, one of the most decorated international cricketers for England, made his foray into the IPL set up last season, when the Royals picked him at the 2023 mini-auction. He made his IPL debut in the 2023 edition, playing 3 matches for the franchise. Root scored 10 in only one inning he played.

Kumar Sangakkara, Royals' Director of Cricket, said, "During our retention conversations, Joe informed us of his decision to not take part in IPL 2024. Even in a short span of time, Joe was able to create such a positive impact on the franchise and the players around him. His energy around the group and the experience he brought to the Royals will be missed. We respect his decision totally and wish him success in everything he does."

The 32-year-old's addition to the Royals squad brought in plenty of depth and experience, which served as a learning experience for a lot of youngsters in the side like Dhruv Jurel, Riyan Parag, Yashasvi Jaiswal in the team. His camaraderie with his England teammate Jos Buttler and his bonding with Yuzvendra Chahal was also one of the memorable highlights of the former England Test skipper's stint with the Royals.

RR finished at number five last season, with seven wins and 14 points in 14 matches.

Root has scored 2,235 runs in 97 T20 matches at an average of over 31, with 14 fifties in 87 innings.

Ex-Pakistan Captain Wants This Star To Come Out Of Retirement

Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif urged all-rounder Imad Wasim to reverse his retirement from international cricket. The 34-year-old all-rounder brought curtains down his cricket career on Friday with a post on social media stating that he feels it is the right time to retire. Latif on Saturday took to X, labelling Wasim as Pakistan's "best spinner" and urging him to reverse his retirement from international cricket.

"Imad Wasim should withdraw his retirement decision, Pakistan team's best spin bowler is Imad and can help a lot in batting. In the World Cup, if the most effective player of the team will not be there, it is not a loss for Imad, it is a loss for Pakistan. Mohammad Hafeez wants them to bring Imad back. If you want to play leagues, then separate from the central contract, but keep yourself available for the Pakistan team," Rashid wrote on X.

Wasim made 55 ODIs and 66 T20I appearances for Pakistan and amassed 1472 runs in total claiming 109 wickets.

He played his final international match against New Zealand earlier this year in a T20I game where he played a rapid-fire knock of 31 in just 14 balls and picked two wickets. He was also part of Pakistan's Champions Trophy-winning side in 2017.

Wasim shared a heartfelt note to announce his retirement thanking the PCB as well as the fans for the support that they showed him throughout his career.

"In recent days I have been doing a lot of thinking about my international career and I have come to the conclusion that now is the right time for me to announce my retirement from international cricket," he said in a statement.

"I would like to thank the PCB for all their support over the years - it has truly been an honour to represent Pakistan. Thank you to the Pakistan fans for always supporting me with such passion. A final thank you to my family and friends who have been so important in helping me achieve at the highest level. I now look forward to focussing on the next stage of my playing career away from the international stage," Wasim added.

Rinku's Last-Ball Six That Did Not Count - Here's What ICC's Rule Says

Suryakumar Yadav's captaincy debut got off to a dream start as India defeated Australia by three wickets in a high-scoring thriller at the ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam. Chasing a target of 208, Suryakumar played one of his trademark T20I knocks, hitting 80 off just 42 balls to put India in control. However, after his departure, India lost three wickets in the space of 14 runs, only for Rinku Singh to seal the deal for India. With Australia pacer Sean Abbott left to defend one run off one delivery, Rinku stayed calm and hit the ball over long-on for a huge six.

However, a few second later, the umpire signalled for a no-ball and India's victory was sealed right before that six came off Rinku's bat.

While Rinku hit Abbott for a six, the runs were not added to India's final score.

What does ICC's rule says?

According to ICC Men's T20I Playing Conditions 16.5.1, "As soon as a result is reached ...match is at an end. Nothing that happens thereafter, except as in clause 41.17.2 (Penalty runs), shall be regarded as part of it."

Had India needed more than one run to win the match, the six run would've reflected in their final score.

"If a boundary is scored before the batters have completed sufficient runs to win the match, the whole of the boundary allowance shall be credited to the side's total and, in the case of a hit by the bat, to the striker's score," as per the ICC playing conditions.

With the win, India took a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. The second game will be played at Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram.

Life Continues: Kuldeep, Siraj And Rahul React After World Cup Heartbreak

Some of India's World Cup heroes, including Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Siraj, opened up after the heartbreak at the last hurdle following a glorious run in the showpiece. Spinner Kuldeep Yadav on Thursday admitted that the pain of World Cup final defeat to Australia will linger and push him to work harder for the "next opportunity". Reactions from Mohammed Siraj and KL Rahul followed, as the players tried to cope up with the six-wicket loss to Australia in the summit clash in Ahmedabad on November 19.

"Our journey from Chennai to Ahmedabad ended in a disappointing result, but we take pride in our achievements over the six weeks. Despite the pain, we're determined to work harder for the next opportunity," Kuldeep said in a post on 'X'.

"While the pain of defeat lingers, we must move forward; life continues, and healing takes time," said the wrist spinner.

He said dealing with the setback was tough.

"The Cup was beautiful, but it seems God had other plans. Navigating this moment, it's time to switch off and recharge. Dealing with this setback is tough, but we hold onto faith, believing in the journey ahead," he said.

Kuldeep played all of India's 11 matches in the World Cup and took 15 wickets at an average of 28.26.

India won 10 matches on the trot before losing the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in front of over one lakh supporters. "Thanks to our dedicated support staff, we were fully prepared for every opponent, and their commitment reassured us as players," said Kuldeep.

"The love from fans at each of the 9 venues touched our hearts and motivated us to exceed our limits. We're grateful to passionate fans worldwide and in every Indian Household for their support." Siraj, who was seen crying after India's loss, took 14 wickets in 11 matches at an economy rate of 5.68 and was part of a formidable new ball attack that ran through opposition batting line-ups right through the group stages of the tournament.

"Our campaign did not end like we wanted it to but representing India is the biggest honour and moment of pride for me. All I have ever wanted to do is represent my country," Siraj tweeted.

"Heartbroken! Words can't express the disappointment and hurt. It's been a tough loss to take. This time might not have been god's will but we aim to work harder each day to chase glory for our country!" The pacer added, "Thank you to all our fans for your support. Seeing a sea of blue in the crowd is a feeling that can't be matched. Grateful! The energy you provided was amazing, backing us all the way. Jai Hind!" Siraj thanked the team's support staff for ensuring the players remained at their best during the showpiece.

"A big credit to our support staff, the unsung heroes who work so hard behind the scenes to provide us the care we need and help us prepare for games. Your contribution is immense to this team." Rahul, who also kept wickets besides playing some elegant knocks that define his batting, summed up everything in two words, "Still hurts".

IND vs AUS, 1st T20I: Surya Shines But Rinku Once Again Finishes Off

Skipper Suryakumar Yadav shrugged off the disappointment of a World Cup final defeat with a captain's knock but it was Rinku Singh's composure that took a young Indian team to a thrilling two-wicket victory in the opening T20 International in Visakhapatnam on Thursday. This was India's highest successful chase in T20 Internationals. The skipper was in belligerent mood making a mockery of a 209-run chase with 80 off just 42 balls but Rinku's 22 not off 14 balls saved India from the blushes.

India needed 14 off 12 balls after Surya departed but Axar Patel bungled big time and the likes of Ravi Bishnoi and Arshdeep Singh also were run-out in a jiffy.

With a single needed off the final delivery, Sean Abbott was deposited into the stands by Rinku but to everyone's delight, it turned out to be a big no-ball and hence the maximum wasn't counted. India thus won with a ball to spare.

However, what stood out was Rinku's fearlessness and the sense of occasion and execution under pressure.

Ishan Kishan also brushed aside initial rustiness to smack five sixes in his 39-ball-58 and was an ideal companion for his skipper in a run-chase which became easy due to a flat batting track, short boundaries and lot of dew during the second innings.

What the 112-run stand in 10 overs between Surya and Kishan did for India was keep them at par with Australia and in the hunt for a win.

Rinku, the 'designated finisher' of T20 team, showed little nerves while lending the finishing touches with some lusty blows after Axar Patel's 2 off 6 balls seemed like increasing tension in the dug-out.

Kishan initially had only two runs off his first eight deliveries but once Surya played his customary pick-up short off Jason Behrendorff behind the keeper for a six, the keeper-batter seemed to gain some confidence as he lofted Sean Abbott over deep mid-wicket for a huge six.

Surya lofted Abbott for a maximum and both got going as Kishan found his match-up in leg-break bowler Tanveer Sangha, who was sent on a leather-hunt.

Sangha's leg-breaks were literally long-hops coming into left-hander and three of Kishan's five sixes were muscled in the same region but it was the hunger for a sixth six over extra cover that brought about his downfall.

His skipper, however, hit the best six of the match when he brought about his first half-century with a lofted on-drive off Abbott.

Earlier, India's young bowling attack got a rude reality check as a dominant Josh Inglis smoked them to all parts of the ground with a cracking 110 off 50 balls, taking Australia to a healthy 208 for three. Surya's decision to bowl first on a batting featherbed turned out to be a nightmare for the inexperienced Indian attack. They were taken to the cleaners by Inglis (110 off 50 balls), who hit as many as eight sixes, half a dozen of them off googly bowler Ravi Bishnoi.

The century, his first across international formats, came off 47 balls and there were 11 boundaries as well, including an audacious reverse sweep off pacer Arshdeep Singh (0/41 in 4 overs) and an arrogant slash over point off the same bowler.

Only pacer Mukesh Kumar (0/29 in 4 overs) held his own amid the onslaught from both ends.

The stockily built keeper-batter, brimming with confidence of an altogether different level, took a special liking for Bishnoi (1/54 in 4 overs), who for the first time looked exposed due to his one-dimensional skill-set of consistently bowling fast googlies, with an occasional straighter one slipped in between.

Inglis had the seasoned Steve Smith (52 off 41 balls) for company as the former skipper kept nudging and pushing apart from his eight boundaries in a stand of 130, dominated by the junior partner.

Prasidh Krishna (1/50 in 4 overs), who travelled around with the World Cup squad for a month, clearly didn't find any rhythm as it was Smith, who first creamed him for successive boundaries and then when his end was changed by Suryakumar, the fate didn't change as he was hit for three fours and a six by Inglis, who went on a rampage.

In fact, it was Bishnoi who drew the first blood getting Matthew Short cleaned up with a straighter one but then Inglis devised a plan that worked wonderfully well for him.

Knowing that Bishnoi primarily bowls fast googlies or just pushes one with the angle, he just moved away from stumps, hitting him over extra cover, leave aside pulling those half-trackers into the mid-wicket stands.

There were slog sweeps to fuller deliveries and Bishnoi looked out of sorts on a day when Yuzvendra Chahal, smarting after an unceremonious omission from T20I squad, took six wickets for Haryana in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, the national one-day championship.

Having been used to a stellar bowling show through the better part of the World Cup, the pasting that this second string attack received from Australia must have shaken the likes of Bishnoi and Krishna, both of whom had 'half-centuries' to their names, albeit of a different kind.

No Bumrah! 5 Indians Included As De Villers Pick WC Team Of The Tournament

Legendary South Africa cricketer AB De Villiers picked his Team of the Tournament for Cricket World Cup 2023 and it included five players from the Indian cricket team. Besides the duo of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, Shreyas Iyer, Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja also found a place. De Villiers' choice of Indian players was slightly different from the International Cricket Council (ICC) Team of the Tournament which had KL Rahul and Jasprit Bumrah with Iyer missing out. Australia's star performer in the World Cup final - Travis Head - also found a place in the team selected by AB De Villiers. The other players were Rachin Ravindra, Glenn Maxwell, Adam ZampaGerald Coetzee and Dilshan Madushanka.

However, De Villiers did not include a single wicket-keeper in his Team of the Tournament.

Rohit had a good outing in the competition with explosive knocks at the top of the innings and he finished Cricket World Cup 2023 with the maximum number of sixes. He also broke De Villiers' record of hitting the maximum number of ODI sixes in a calendar year. On the other hand, Kohli finished the tournament as the highest run-scorer while Shami was the highest wicket-taker with 24 dismissals.

It was also a breakthrough for New Zealand youngster Rachin Ravindra who made use of his opportunities and ended up scoring 578 runs.

AB de Villiers' Cricket World Cup 2023 Team of the tournament: Travis Head, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Rachin Ravindra, Shreyas Iyer, Glenn Maxwell, Ravindra Jadeja, Adam Zampa, Dilshan Madushanka, Gerald Coetzee, Mohammad Shami.

Perth Scorchers Women vs Melbourne Stars Women: Fantasy XI

Perth Scorchers Women will lock horns with Melbourne Stars Women in Match 50 of the Women's Big Bash League 2023 on November 22. The Western Australia Cricket Association Ground in Perth will host this clash, scheduled to begin at 2:40 PM IST. Talking about teams' performances, the Perth Scorchers have been in superb form in WBBL 2023, winning eight and losing four of their 12 matches so far. Currently, they stand second in the points table and can reclaim the top spot with a win in their upcoming match. On the other hand, Melbourne Stars have endured a poor campaign with just four wins out of 12 matches thus far. They have managed to collect just eight points, resulting in their elimination from the ongoing campaign.

Weather conditions

The temperature at the WACA Stadium in Perth is anticipated to be around 38C accompanied by 19% humidity.

Pitch report

The wicket at the WACA Stadium in Perth is renowned for its pace and bounce, which assists the fast bowlers in getting the breakthroughs for their teams.

In the five Women's T20Is played at the venue, the teams fielding first have won on four occasions.

PS-W vs MS-W predicted playing XI

Perth Scorchers Women: Sophie Devine (c), Beth Mooney (wk), Maddy Darke, Natalie Sciver-Brunt, Amy Edgar, Amy Jones, Alana King, Piepa Cleary, Lilly Mills, Taneale Peschel, Chloe Ainsworth

Melbourne Stars Women: Annabel Sutherland (c), Sophia Dunkley, Maia Bouchier, Alice Capsey, Sophie Reid (wk), Nicole Faltum, Kim Garth, Olivia Henry, Sasha Moloney, Milly Illingworth, Sophie Day

PS-W vs MS-W fantasy XI WBBL 2023

Wicket-keepers: Beth Mooney

Batters: Sophia Dunkley

All-rounders: Natalie Sciver-Brunt, Amy Edgar, Sophie Devine, Annabel Sutherland, Alice Capsey, Kim Garth

Bowlers: Alana King, Sophie Day, Chloe Ainsworth

It's a 6:5 combination featuring six Perth Scorchers players.

Beth Mooney is a no-brainer pick among wicket-keepers. The Southpaw is the leading run-getter in the ongoing campaign with 535 runs at a staggering average of 66.87, including one ton and five half-centuries.

Sophia Dunkley will be the sole batter in this lineup dominated by the all-rounders. Even though the right-handed batter hasn't been at her aggressive best, she has amassed 130 runs in 12 innings while chipping in as a part-time bowler with three wickets.

Three all-rounders each from Perth Scorchers (Natalie Sciver-Brunt, Amy Edgar & Sophie Devine) and Melbourne Stars (Annabel Sutherland, Alice Capsey, Kim Garth) will make it to our XI.

The trio of Sciver-Brunt, Edgar and Devine have played an instrumental role in Scorchers' stellar form this season. While Sciver-Brunt has piled up 117 runs in five innings, Edgar has picked up 19 wickets at an economy of 6.50 and also has 59 runs to her credit

Captain Sophie Devine has led by example, accumulating 446 runs and taking 11 wickets in 12 fixtures.

Annabel Sutherland, Alice Capsey and Kim Garth have been the positive takeaways from a rather underwhelming season for the Melbourne Stars.

Australian duo Annabel Sutherland and Kim Garth have combined for 27 wickets. Sutherland has also contributed significantly with the bat, scoring 243 runs at a strike rate of 120.29. Meanwhile, Alice Capsey has accounted for 240 runs and seven wickets in 12 matches.

Alana King, Sophie Day and Chloe Ainsworth will be our three bowlers expected to provide points through wickets.

Sophie Day, the 25-year-old spinner from Melbourne Stars, has had a breakthrough WBBL 2023 season and is currently the top wicket-taker in the tournament with 23 wickets.

Captain: Sophie Devine

The Perth Scorchers skipper has been a major force to reckon with throughout the competition and will once again look to display her all-round heroics against the Melbourne Stars.

Vice-captain: Annabel Sutherland

In Meg Lanning's absence, the onus will be on Sutherland to add important runs with the willow and help her side with the ball as well. Moreover, she has yielded an average of 88.42 fantasy points over the course of WBBL 2023 and hence, will be a good pick for vice-captaincy.

India's Cricket Is In Good Place: Wasim Akram

The Pakistan cricket fraternity showered the Indian team with praise for their incredible run to the final of World Cup, with the legendary Wasim Akram saying their cricket "is in a good place" despite the loss to Australia in the title clash. Australia ended India's run in the final with a six-wicket victory to extend their dominance in the tournament. "Obviously they must be shattered to lose the final but in cricket these things happen. India had one bad day, and unfortunately, it came in the final," Akram said.

"You look at their structure, the money for players, the well thought out programs and the back up talent and they really just need to continue doing these things. Their cricket is in a good place," he added.

Akram said as a former player he knows how mentally tough the Australians are in knockout match.

"I was captain when we played them in the 1999 World Cup final and although we had beaten them in the league stage, in the final they were a different side just like yesterday in Ahmedabad." Some, like former Pakistan wicketkeeper Rashid Latif, felt the Indian team was in no way inferior to the Australians.

"Maybe it is just a psychological thing with the Indian players. This team was worthy of winning the World Cup final but all credit to the Australians for showing once again how mentally tough and organised they are in their sports," Latif said.

Latif termed seamer Mohammad Shami's bowling in the World Cup as outstanding.

"You look at the way he has come up and done so well. He was in my opinion the standout player for India in this World Cup." Pakistan's former captain Misbah ul Haq felt that the Australians had read the pitch better than the Indians and the toss proved vital.

"A side batting first required over 300 on this pitch to defend it," he said.

Misbah also praised Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for leading by example throughout the tournament.

"I think the younger players must have learnt a lot from these two in the dressing room and otherwise in this World Cup." Former players Basit Ali and Kamran Akmal believed that it was time for India to start focussing on building a T20 side for next year's World Cup.

"...But it will be difficult for the Indian selectors to not consider Rohit, Virat or Jadeja for the series in South Africa or even the Champions Trophy in 2025," Basit said.

Former batsman Mohsin Khan said that Pakistan must learn from how India and Australia had adapted themselves to the requirements of modern day cricket, especially in the World Cup.

"Instead of looking at India's defeat we must appreciate the fact that this year they have already played in two ICC finals, losing both times to Australia. They are doing something right."

Coming to the match, Australia opted to bowl first and bundled out India for 240 in 50 overs. On a tough batting surface, skipper Rohit Sharma (47 in 31 balls, with four boundaries and three sixes), Virat Kohli (54 in 63 balls, with four boundaries) and KL Rahul (66 in 107 balls, with one four) posted important knocks.

Mitchell Starc (3/55) was the pick of the bowlers for Australia. Skipper Pat Cummins (2/34) and Josh Hazlewood (2/60) also bowled well. Adam Zampa and Glenn Maxwell got a wicket each.

In the chase of 241, India started off really well and had the Aussies down at 47/3. Knocks from Travis Head (137 in 120 balls, with 15 fours and four sixes) and Marnus Labuschagne (58 in 110 balls, with four boundaries) left the Indian team without answers and guided them to a seven-wicket win.

Virat Kohli Emerges As Player Of The Tournament In Cricket World Cup 2023

India's batting talisman Virat Kohli ended the ICC World Cup 2023 campaign as the Player of the Tournament and leading run-scorer of the marquee event. The 36-year-old ended his ODI World Cup 2023 journey as the leading run-scorer of this prestigious tournament with a total of 765 runs. Kohli scored 54 runs off 63 deliveries in the final against the triumphant Australian team at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday. However, he had a fantastic campaign overall, with three tonnes and six half-centuries at an average of 101.57 and a strike rate of 90.69.

The former India captain had a great tournament on all fronts, first equaling and then passing Sachin Tendulkar to become the player with the most ODI hundreds (50). Last Wednesday, the 35-year-old repeated that feat in the crucial semi-final match against New Zealand at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium.

On October 8, the batter began the tournament with a critical 85 in the team's first match against Australia in Chennai. In the group stages, he scored centuries against Bangladesh (103) and South Africa (101*), as well as key performances against New Zealand (95) and Sri Lanka (85).

Kohli performed admirably in the World Cup, serving as the pivot around which the entire batting unit revolved.

Virat ended with the most fifty-plus scores in a single World Cup edition with nine half-centuries and passed through Tendulkar's seven fifties in 2003 and Shakib al Hasan in 2019.

In the 28.3 overs, Pat Cummins picked up a humongous wicket after he dismissed the highest run scorer of the ongoing tournament. The Aussie skipper delivered a short-length ball that took an inside edge and got into the stumps, which forced Kohli to move out of the crease on Sunday.

Over 6,000 Security Personnel To Guard World Cup Final: Ahmedabad Police

More than 6,000 security personnel will be deployed in Ahmedabad city and the Narendra Modi stadium during the World Cup final between mighty India and five-time champions Australia on November 19, a senior police official said on Saturday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Australian Deputy PM Richard Marles will be among the key personalities who are expected to attend the ICC Cricket World Cup grand finale in the Motera area of the city, said Ahmedabad Commissioner of Police GS Malik.

Addressing a press conference here, Malik said elaborate security arrangements, with personnel from Gujarat police, Rapid Action Force (RAF), home guards and others, have been made keeping in mind the movement of over one lakh spectators and the presence of several dignitaries at the stadium.

"Over 6,000 police personnel will be deployed to ensure that the mega event passes off without any trouble. Of these 6,000 personnel, nearly 3,000 will be stationed inside the stadium, while others will be deployed to guard other key locations, such as hotels where players and other dignitaries are staying," said Malik.

While one company of RAF will be deployed inside the stadium, another will be on duty outside the stadium, said Malik, adding that city police have created a temporary command and control centre inside the venue equipped with a wireless network that works even when mobile communication fails.

Malik said four senior IPS officials of IG and DIG rank along with 23 deputy commissioner of police (DCP) rank officials will supervise and guide the personnel on the match day. They will be assisted by 39 assistant commissioners of police and 92 police inspectors, said Malik.

To respond to any chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) emergencies during the match, teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) will also be deployed in the city, said the Ahmedabad police chief.

He added that 10 teams of Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad along with two teams of Chetak Commandos, an elite unit, will be stationed near the stadium.

Asked if the police have received any inputs regarding a possible threat, Malik said the media should not highlight such threats issued by unknown persons sitting outside India.

"We are well prepared for any threat. Some people sitting in Canada or any other country just send a threat email or share audio or video of a threat and the media hypes it. I believe that there is no need to give recognition to such things," said Malik.

Other dignitaries who are expected to attend the final match at the stadium include Union Home Minister Amit Shah, US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti, Minister for Home Affairs and Law of Singapore K. Shanmugam, Tamil Nadu minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma.

The Indian Air Force's renowned Surya Kiran aerobatics team is scheduled to put up an air show ahead of the game on Sunday.

The match at the 1.32-lakh capacity stadium is scheduled to start at 2 pm.

The Indian side has remained unbeaten in the tournament, winning all 10 matches it has played so far.

Mohammad Yousuf Appointed Pakistan Junior Team Head Coach

On a spree of making new appointments, the Pakistan Cricket Board on Saturday named former captain Mohammad Yousuf as the head coach of the national U-19 team ahead of the Asia Cup and the World Cup early next year. Yousuf's appointment comes a day after PCB elevated the former fast bowler Sohail Tanvir as the head of the junior selection committee. Among its slew of actions taken in recent days following Pakistan's first-round exit from the World Cup in India, the PCB had also announced the appointment of former pacer Wahab Riaz as the chief selector of the national selection committee.

Mohammad Hafeez, who had recently resigned as one of the members of the technical committee, has not only been named the director of cricket (men's team) but is also expected to double up as the coach during the team's upcoming tours of Australia and New Zealand.

Yousuf, who has previously served as batting coach of the Pakistan team and also at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore, is ranked as one of Pakistan's top batters, with 7,530 Test runs and 9,720 in ODIs in a career spanning from 1998 to 2010.

With 1,788 runs in 11 Tests at 99.33 (9x100s, 3x50s), Yousuf also holds the record of scoring most runs in a calender year. He achieved the fear in 2006.

“Having had the privilege of working with the senior men's side, I will bring my coaching experience to the U19 set-up, providing a nurturing environment for the young talents to thrive and make a mark on the international level,” Yousuf said in a PCB statement.

Yousuf said he had agreed to become the junior team head coach since it was important to identify young talent and groom and harness them for the senior team.

A reliable source in the PCB also confirmed that former fast bowler Umar Gul would also be named as the new bowling coach of the senior team going to Australia and New Zealand.

“Hafeez will also be batting coach of the senior side, while senior bureaucrat Naved Akram Cheema is going to be appointed as the new manager of the team, with Mansoor Rana as the operational manager of the side,” the source said.

These announcements will be made after board's managing committee chairman Zaka Ashraf returns from India on Monday after attending the International Cricket Council (ICC) meeting and World Cup final in Ahmedabad.

"I Don't Care": SA Coach's Blunt Response To World Cup Final 'Question'

South Africa suffered another semi-final loss in an ICC event, going down fighting to Australia at the penultimate hurdle of the Cricket World Cup 2023 on Thursday. Despite posting a mediocre total of 212 runs on the board, the Proteas took the game to the end but it was the Australian side that prevailed. After the match, when South Africa coach Rob Walter was asked about the potential winner in the final, between India and Australia, he gave a rather cold response.

Understandably disappointed over his team's departure at the semi-final stage, Walter told the reporter that he doesn't even care who goes on to win the World Cup, knowing that his team is out.

However, Walter did admit that India would have an advantage as it is a home event for them.

Reporter: If I could ask you - can I have a few words or would you like to answer the question on India vs Australia I mean, how are you I mean if you had to, once you are over the disappointment, who do you think would make it, get the trophy?

Rob Walter: To be honest, there's about a 1% chance I'll be watching. And to be even more brutally honest, I actually don't care. But obviously, because of the World Cup being in India, it's always great for the home nation to win the World Cup. I've got a lot of friends in the Australian change room, so I have probably a soft spot for a couple of them, especially the coach, for them to do well. But just seeing when we last played here against India and the support that's rallied around the team, and just the great hope and inspiration that winning a World Cup at home does actually bring. I think it would only be fitting for India to win. And in the same breath, they have been the best side in the competition and they've played the best cricket but that doesn't necessarily mean that's what will happen.

India will square off against Australia in the final on Sunday.

David Miller Becomes First South Africa Player To Achieve This Big WC Feat

South African middle-order batter David Miller made history on Thursday, smashing the first-ever century by a Proteas batter in an ICC Cricket World Cup knockout match. Miller accomplished this milestone during the semifinal match of the ICC Cricket World Cup against Australia at Kolkata's Eden Gardens. Miller walked in at 24/4 and smashed a memorable century despite all odds. He scored 101 runs in 116 balls. His knock consisted of eight fours and five sixes. His runs came at a strike rate of over 87.

This has overtaken Faf Du Plessis's 82-run knock against New Zealand in the 2015 Cricket World Cup semifinal as the best score by a South African in WC knockouts.

Miller's century is also only the third century by a South African in an ICC event knockout match. Earlier, Herschelle Gibbs had made 116* against India in the semifinal of the ICC Champions Trophy 2002. Jacques Kallis also made 113* against Sri Lanka in the semifinal of the 1998 Champions Trophy.

Miller has also overtaken Kallis to become Proteas' second-highest six-hitter in ODI cricket, with 138 sixes. Kallis had hit 137 sixes in his ODI career. The highest ODI sixes by a South African batter are by AB de Villiers, who has 200 sixes in the 50-over format.

Besides Glenn Maxwell (three centuries), Miller is the only batter who comes at number five or below to have two or more World Cup tons. Miller has scored two centuries in his World Cup career.

In 10 matches of this World Cup, Miller has scored 356 runs at an average of 44.50. He has ended unbeaten twice. Miller has scored a century and a fifty in the tournament, with the best score of 101 and a strike rate of over 107.

Coming to the match, Proteas opted to bat first. After being reduced to 24/4, a 95-run partnership between Heinrich Klaasen (47 in 48 balls, with four boundaries and two sixes) and Miller helped Proteas recover. A half-century between Miller and Gerald Coetzee (19) was also vital in taking Proteas near the 200-run mark. SA was bundled out for 212 in 49.4 overs.

Mitchell Starc (3/34) and skipper Pat Cummins (3/51) were the top wicket-takers for Australia. Josh Hazlewood (2/12) and Travis Head (2/21) also bowled well for Aussies.

Aussies need 213 to reach the final, where they will play India.

"We Will Strive For Excellence": Pakistan's New Team Director Hafeez

Former Test captain Mohammad Hafeez expressed his delight at being appointed the Team Director of the Pakistan cricket side and asserted that they would strive for excellence together. He has been given the responsibility of reshaping the national team after Pakistan's league stage elimination in the World Cup. Hafeez will also be serving as a coach and he will be consulted when the PCB appoints the new support staff of the team for the forthcoming tours to Australia and New Zealand.

"I am honoured and excited to take on the role of Team Director for the Pakistan Cricket Team. I would like to thank PCB for trusting my abilities and giving me this challenging responsibility," Hafeez said.

"But, I am committed to work collaboratively with the coaching staff and players to contribute to the team's success. Together, we will strive for excellence and bring happiness for our passionate fans," Hafeez added in a statement released by the board.

It is the first time that the board has named a director for the national team.

In 2019, the PCB had appointed Misbah-ul-Haq as the head coach and chief selector with absolute powers. However, after a year, he stepped down from the post of chief selector.

Besides Hafeez, the PCB on Wednesday also appointed Shan Masood as the new Test captain and Shaheen Shah Afridi as the T20 team skipper. The board added that the captain for the one-day format would be decided later.

The decisions came after Zaka met with outgoing captain Babar Azam and the Pakistan team management in Lahore to hear from them the reasons for the team's poor show in the Asia Cup and World Cup, where the side failed to move beyond the league stage.

Babar, after the meeting, announced his resignation as captain on his social media account, having rejected an offer by the PCB to just lead the side in red-ball cricket. He was appointed the skipper in 2019.

Hafeez was also called by the board chairman to discuss any changes in the squad ahead of the World Cup. Although he and Misbah-ul-Haq had suggested some changes, Babar and former chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq rejected them, insisting on retaining the same players.

Hafeez announced his retirement from international cricket last year in January.

Pakistan Stars Divided In Reaction After Babar Azam Quits Captaincy

Babar Azam's decision to step down from Pakistan captaincy has evoked a mixed reaction from his teammates, with a few of them taking to social media to praise the 29-year-old's contributions as the leader while some others remained silent. Babar on Wednesday had announced his decision to relinquish Pakistan leadership roles across formats after the team failed to enter the semifinals of the ongoing World Cup. Pacer Naseem Shah, who had missed the marquee event with an injury, took to X to extend his support for Babar.

“Four years of pure joy, it has been an absolute honour to have played and made my white ball debut under your leadership.

“You have always led from the front and made us believe in ‘One Team, One Dream.' “Inshah Allah, we will watch you break many batting records for our beloved Pakistan,” wrote Shah.

Wicketkeeper batter and often a deputy to Babar, Mohammad Rizwan too penned an emotional tribute.

“You are definitely one of the greatest batsmen Pakistan has ever seen.

“Your honesty, love, integrity, thoughts, and efforts for Pakistan as the captain are the things to look up to. May you continue to shine for Pakistan,” wrote Rizwan.

Middle-order batter Iftikhar Ahmed too was effusive in praise for Babar's captaincy.

“It's been an honour to have represented Pakistan under your captaincy. I've been part of many highs and many lows during that period, but your resilience and determination always came on top.

“Looking forward to seeing you score heavily for Pakistan and that too from the best seat of non-striking end,” said Iftikhar.

There were talks of a rift in the Pakistan squad after their modest run in the World Cup, with a few players unhappy about the way Babar led the side.

Perhaps, it reflected in the silence of some of the other teammates such as Shadab Khan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, as all of them were backed strongly by Babar in the last three years.

A few former players such as Mohammad Hafeez, Saeed Ajmal, Azhar Ali and Azhar Mahmood too appreciated Babar for leading the team well during his four-year tenure.

However, two discarded Pakistan players and Babar's former teammates at Karachi Kings, Imad Wasim and M0hammad Amir made it clear that they didn't believe that the right-hander warranted a place in the national T20 side.

“It is a tough call but Babar doesn't deserve a place in T20s,” said Wasim.

Amir, echoed the sentiment, stating bluntly, “Babar doesn't deserve to be in T20.” After Babar's decision to move away, the Pakistan Cricket Board had appointed Shan Masood as Test captain and Shaheen Shah Afridi as T20I skipper.

Australia Beat South Africa To Set Up Cricket World Cup Final With India

Travis Head starred with bat and ball as Australia set up a World Cup final clash with India after a tense three-wicket win over South Africa in Kolkata on Thursday. Chasing a tricky 213 for victory, Australia wobbled after Head hit 62 but Steve Smith (30) and Josh Inglis (28) helped the five-time champions reach their target with 16 balls to spare in the second semi-final in Kolkata.

"It's hard to unpack all of that. I didn't move for the past couple of hours. It was a tense finish and an amazing game," said Head.

As Australia reached an eighth World Cup final, South Africa were left to rue a fifth semi-final loss despite David Miller's 101.

Australia slipped to 137-5 and then 193-7 before Mitchell Starc (16) and skipper Pat Cummins (14) kept their nerve to steer the team home.

Left-hand batsman and part-time off-spinner Head stood out after taking two wickets and then with his 48-ball innings laced with nine fours and two sixes.

Australia were in trouble when they were five down as spinners Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi struck in quick succession to rattle the middle-order.

Maharaj bowled Head, who was dropped on 40 and 57, and Shamsi, a left-arm wrist spinner, trapped Marnus Labuschagne lbw for 18 and bowled Glenn Maxwell for one in his next over.

Australia started the tournament with two losses but registered their eighth straight win.

"The way we started with the bat and ball was the turning point, we always had to play catch-up," said South Africa skipper Temba Bavuma.

'Ruthless Australia'

"The conditions combined with the quality of the Australia attack. They were ruthless and exploited every bit of advantage, and really put us under pressure."

Starc led the bowling charge with figures of 3-34 and Cummins also picked three wickets to bowl out South Africa for 212 in 49.4 overs.

Left-arm quick Starc struck in the first over to send back Bavuma, who had said he was not "100% fit" at the toss, for a fourth-ball duck.

Josh Hazlewood claimed the wicket of in-form Quinton de Kock for three as Cummins took a stunning catch.

De Kock, who will quit one-day international after the World Cup, ended with 594 runs including four centuries to sit behind the tournament's leading batsman Virat Kohli (711).

The new-ball bowlers kept up the attack with the wickets of Aiden Markram (10) and Rassie van der Dussen (six) as South Africa slumped to 24-4 and were 44-4 when rain interrupted play.

Klaasen and Miller hit back after the 45-minute rain break as the two put on 95 runs but Head broke through to bowl Klaasen for 47.

Head trapped Marco Jansen lbw on the next delivery to be on a hat-trick, which was saved by Gerald Coetzee, who put on a 53-run partnership with Miller.

The left-handed Miller smashed eight fours and five sixes in his 116-ball knock.

The final is on Sunday at the world's biggest cricket stadium in Ahmedabad.

"Sloppy...": Rohit's Self-Criticism Despite India's World Cup Final Entry

India are on the cusp of history. One more win and the Rohit Sharma-led Indian cricket team will win the the ODI World Cup 2023. If India win the final on Sunday, it will be the third ODI Cricket World Cup for the side. Following a 70-run win over New Zealand in the semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma said his side was a little sloppy on the field. He also lauded Kiwi batters Daryl Mitchell and skipper Kane Williamson for their 181-run partnership.

Mohammed Shami's seven-wicket haul and Virat Kohli's record 50th ODI century were the highlights as India secured a 70-wicket win over New Zealand in the semifinals of the Cricket World Cup at Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday.

"I have played a lot of cricket here, any score on this ground, you cannot relax. Got to get the job done quickly and stay at it. We knew there would be pressure on us. We were very calm, even though we were a bit sloppy on the field. These things are bound to happen (the partnership between Mitchell and Kane) but glad we could get the job done," said Rohit in the post-match presentation.

"It is hard to say if we would have been in trouble [had India scored 30-40 less]. They would not have taken those risks. Williamson and Mitchell batted brilliantly. Was important for us to stay calm. The crowd went silent, but we knew we needed a catch or run out. Shami was brilliant. The form all the guys are in, top five-six batters, whenever they have gotten an opportunity, they have made it count. Very pleased to see what Iyer has done for us this tournament. Gill, the way he has batted for us has been brilliant. Unfortunately, he had to go off with cramps."

"Kohli did what he does, also got to his landmark century as well. England game we got 230 on the board, way bowlers bowled with the new ball was amazing. Today obviously being the semifinal, would not say there was no pressure, whenever you play there is pressure. Semifinal adds a bit extra, we wanted to not think too much about it, just do what we've been doing like in the first nine games. Things came off for us nicely in the second half," he concluded.

Earlier in the day, India opted to bat first and scored 397/4 in their 50 overs. Skipper Rohit Sharma (47 in 29 balls, with four boundaries and four sixes) and Shubman Gill (80 in 66 balls, with eight fours and three sixes) delivered a fine start with a 71-run opening stand.

Virat Kohli (117 in 113 balls, nine fours, and two sixes) posted his 50th ODI ton, while Shreyas Iyer (105 in 70 balls, with four boundaries and eight sixes) scored his second-successive WC century, helping India post a massive score. KL Rahul also delivered a 20-ball cameo of 39 runs, with five fours and two sixes.

Tim Southee (3/100) was the pick of the bowlers for the Kiwis. Trent Boult (1/86) also got a wicket.

In the chase of 398, Kiwis lost two early wickets. But an 181-run partnership between Daryl Mitchell (134 in 119 balls, with nine fours and six sixes) and skipper Kane Williamson (69 in 73 balls, with eight centuries and a six) kept Kiwis alive and Indian bowlers sweating for answers. Glenn Phillips also played a valuable knock of 41. However, a two-wicket over by Shami changed the game and Men in Blue bowled exceptionally in the death overs to restrict NZ to 327 in 48.5 overs.

Besides Shami, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj got a wicket each.

Shami was adjudged as the 'Player of the Match' for his dream spell.

"Kon Sa Nasha...": Harbhajan Fumes Over Inzamam's 'Conversion' Comment

Former Indian cricket team spinner Harbhajan Singh took to social media to express his anger over a story involving him that was narrated by former Pakistan skipper Inzamam Ul Haq in an interview which has gone viral on the internet. During the interview, Inzamam said that Harbhajan was impressed with Maulana Tariq Jameel and even contemplated converting to Islam.  “We had a room where prayers were conducted. Maulana Tariq Jameel used to visit us in the evening and lead us into a namaz. After a few days, Irfan Pathan, Mohammad Kaif and Zaheer Khan also started coming. Four other Indian cricketers sat and watched us,” he said. “Harbhajan, who was unaware that Tariq Jameel was a maulana, said that ‘I am impressed with this man and want to follow his words',” he added.

In his social media post, Harbhajan completely denied the story and said that he is a 'proud Sikh'.

Earlier, the rift between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq intensified with the country's sport's governing body accepting the former skipper's resignation amid a conflict of interest allegation.

The PCB issued a statement on Thursday stating that it had accepted the legendary player's resignation.

"Pakistan Cricket Board has accepted Inzamam-ul-Haq's resignation as the chairman of the national men's selection committee and junior selection committee and will announce his replacement in due course.

"Inzamam-ul-Haq voluntarily stepped down from his position on 30 October in order to offer the PCB the opportunity to conduct a transparent inquiry about the conflict of interest allegations," said the PCB statement.
