IPL 2023: Tim David Steals The Show As MI Beat RR By 6 Wickets In Run-Fest

An unbeaten 62-run partnership between middle-order batters Tilak Varma (29 not out) and Tim David (45 not out), coupled with a half-century by Suryakumar Yadav (55), helped Mumbai Indians defeat Rajasthan Royals by six wickets in an Indian Premier League match on Sunday. Mumbai Indians chased down the target of 213 with three balls to spare, reaching 214 for 4 in 19.3 overs. Young Royals opener Yashasvi Jaiswal's fine century and a 72-run partnership with skipper Jos Buttler went in vain as the team suffered a defeat despite putting a mammoth score on the board.

Jaiswal's 124 off 62 balls, studded with 16 boundaries and eight maximums, came off just 62 deliveries at a strike rate of 200.

Brief Scores: Rajasthan Royals: 212 for 7 in 20 overs (Yashasvi Jaiswal 124; Arshad Khan 3/39). Mumbai Indians: 214 for 4 in 19.3 overs (Cameron Green 44, Suryakumar Yadav 55, Tim David 45 not out; R Ashwin 2/27).

"Might Be A Special Plan": KKR Star On Shardul Coming Out To Bat At No 3

Specialist seam bowler Shardul Thakur not being given a single over in KKR's seven-wicket defeat at the hands of Gujarat Titans on Saturday raised eye-brows but opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz said that fitness might not be the issue. Asked if fitness was a concern for Shardul, Gurbaz said: "If you are not fit enough, then you will not play. It might be that the team doesn't need him to bowl. The captain knows it better." Making a comeback after a niggle, Shardul was promoted in batting order at No. 3 as a pinch hitter, a move that did not work as he capped a four-ball duck.

"The coach and management know better than me. I can't say anything on this," said Gurbaz.

"This might be a special plan. They might have discussed before the game. He might have liked to bat in the top-order".

Picked in India's World Test Championship Final-bound squad against Australia, Shardul has played six of KKR's nine matches, in which he has bowled just 11.5 overs.

"He might not have been fit enough to bowl. I can't say anything on this. Coaches and captain know better than me," the Afghan opener insisted.

IPL 2023: Kyle Mayers, Marcus Stoinis Sizzle In LSG's Win Over PBKS

Marcus Stoinis and Kyle Mayers put on a power-hitting masterclass as Lucknow Super Giants slayed Punjab Kings by 56 runs in a high-scoring contest on Friday after amassing the second highest total in IPL history. A display of brutal hitting from Mayers (54 off 24) and Stoinis (72 off 40) fired Lucknow Super Giants to 257 for five against a profligate Punjab Kings. Needing almost 13 runs per over to pull off an improbable chase, Punjab remained behind in the game despite scoring at a decent rate to end with 201 in 19.5 overs.

Atharava Taide batted well for 66 off 36 balls, his maiden fifty plus score in IPL, but the likes of Liam Livingstone (36 off 22) and Sikandar Raza (23 off 14) could not stay long enough to put pressure on the opposition. Skipper Shikhar Dhawan lasted only two balls on his return. Young pacer Yash Thakur was the most successful bowler with figures of 4/37 in 4 overs.

It was LSG's fifth win in eight matches while Punjab Kings suffered their fourht loss in eight games. At 152 for four in 15 overs,Punjab were striking at more than 10 runs per over but task of getting another 106 runs from the last 30 balls was beyond the reach of even Livingstone and Sam Curran (21 off 11).

Besides being the second highest total in IPL history, it was also the highest of the season.

Mayers went on the rampage in the Powerplay before Stoinis 40) effortlessly collected boundaries at will to help his team set a massive target. The other important contributions came from Ayush Badoni (43 off 24) and Nicholas Pooran (45 off 19). Back to lead Punjab after three games, Dhawan opted to field but his bowlers were all over the place on a belter of a track.

Barring Rahul Chahar, all the other six bowlers leaked more than 10 runs per over. The usually frugal Arshdeep Singh leaked 54 runs in four overs and Kagiso Rabada gave away 52 runs in four overs although he had two wickets to show for his efforts.

The total was also the highest of the season and six runs shy of 263, the highest ever total in IPL history achieved by RCB back in 2013 when Chris Gayle played his epic 175-run knock.

LSG skipper K L Rahul (12 off 9) was the only batter, who could not make use of ideal batting conditions. He was dropped on the first ball of the match off debutant Gurnoor Brar but could not make it count.

Mayers looked in menacing tough from the get go as he smashed Arshdeep for four boundaries in his opening over. He started with a gorgeous drive through point before using his long levers to target the long on and deep mid-wicket region, collecting seven fours and four sixes in total.

Such was his confidence and he took a couple of strides forward to dispatch Rabada just over his head.

After Mayers fell inside the Powerplay, Stoinis and Badoni shared an 89-run stand off only 47 balls to maintain the momentum created by Mayers.

Stoinis played some breathtaking strokes in his belligerent knock that included five sixes and half a dozen boundaries.

Stoinis could have been dismissed in the 13th over but Liam Livingstone touched the boundary while trying to take a regulation catch at long on.

Pooran began his innings with three back to back off drives off Livingstone. LSG hammered 73 runs off the last 30 balls.

Here's What Microsoft Can Do in $69 Billion Activision Deal After UK Ban

Britain's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) on Wednesday blocked Microsoft's $69 billion (nearly Rs. 5,64,100 crore) acquisition of Call of Duty maker Activision Blizzard over concerns it would hinder cloud gaming.

The ruling was a shock after the regulator had already resolved its concerns about the consoles market, a sector dominated by Sony's PlayStation and Microsoft's Xbox, which dwarfs cloud gaming.

Is the deal dead?

Not necessarily. Microsoft said it remained fully committed and would appeal.

The regulator's decision reflected a flawed understanding of the market, it said.

How does the appeal process work?

Microsoft can appeal to Britain's Competition Appeal Tribunal (CAT), an independent judicial body, which will only examine the CMA's decision-making process, not the merits of the merger.

Microsoft will not be able to offer new remedies at this stage, such as offering to keep Activision content off its Xbox Game Pass, a subscription service for Xbox users, in Britain, as some analysts suggest.

"The CAT will not engage with the merits of the CMA's decision or conduct a wholesale review of the parties' evidence," said Edward Lane, senior associate at law firm Harbottle & Lewis, where his particular focus is on creative industries, including film, TV, video games and music.

What's next?

Microsoft must appeal by May 24 and a decision may take many months.

"The CAT aims to deal with 'straightforward' cases in under nine months – and Microsoft/Activision is anything but straightforward," Lane, said.

What happens if Microsoft wins?

The Tribunal will return the case to the regulator for further review. Microsoft can then offer new concessions.

"The likelihood is that without a material change in circumstances or new evidence, the CMA is most likely to reach the same conclusion as it did first time around," said James Groves, a competition associate at European law firm Fieldfisher.

What about other regulators?

European regulators will rule on the world's biggest gaming deal by May 22. The US Federal Trade Commission filed a complaint to block the deal, which Microsoft has indicated it will fight.

If either of those blocks the deal, it could be game over, Lane said.

If the EU goes against it, Microsoft would be fighting an increasingly uphill battle and could decide to cut its losses, even if that would mean paying Activision a hefty $3 billion (nearly Rs. 2,450) break fee.

What has happened to other CMA appeals?

Facebook-owner Meta appealed a 2021 decision by the CMA to block its acquisition of Giphy, seen as a test case for the British regulator's resolve to take on "Big Tech".

Meta succeeded on a single procedural ground, with the decision otherwise upheld. The CMA considered new submissions, but it came to the same view and Meta had to sell animated images platform Giphy.

Global financial services company FNZ appealed a block on its 2019 merger with rival GBST. The regulator then "identified certain potential errors" in its investigation chaired by Martin Coleman, who also oversaw the Microsoft-Activision case.

The CAT sent the case back to be reconsidered, and the CMA agreed to accept a new remedy whereby FNZ could sell GBST and then buy parts of it back.

"Even Dhoni Has Spoken...": Ex India Star On Rahanes Resurrection At CSK

The revival of veteran batter Ajinkya Rahane in T20 cricket has been a surprise to many. Bought by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for his base price of INR 50 lakh, Rahane has done wonders with the bat for the franchise, emerging as one of the top run-getters in the competition. His heroics with the bat also seems to have played a role in his return to the national team for the ICC World Test Championship final. While Rahane has been the talk of the two for a few weeks now, former India batter Pravin Amre revealed that even MS Dhoni has been talking about the technique that the veteran India star has shown this campaign.

"We just reminded him how he came into the international arena through T20 (39-ball 61 at Old Trafford, in August 2011). It's a coincidence that his T20 performance has helped him make a comeback. Hard work always pays, when he was dropped nobody thought he will come back. He had a very good Ranji season, and got a double hundred. We are seeing the new version of Ajinkya, people are really surprised the way he is hitting the ball so long while playing proper cricketing shots," Amre was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

Rahane has always been considered a technically sound batter. But, he was never really seen as a T20 specialist since the shortest format of the game has seen players with brute force and muscle excel more as batters. However, Amre debunked that myth as he revealed how much CSK skipper Dhoni has been impressed seeing Rahane use his technique to excel in T20s for Chennai.

"His game is built on timing and he has got it back," said Amre. "Even Dhoni has spoken about his technique. People wrongly say that technique is not important in T20s. I am very happy because as coaches we always insisted on technique, it really matters in T20," Amre said.

Updated IPL Points Table, Orange Cap, Purple Cap List After RR vs CSK Game

Rajasthan Royals played a near-perfect game as the Sanju Samson-led side defeated Chennai Super Kings in an IPL 2023 game in Jaipur on Thursday. Promising Yashasvi Jaiswal once again displayed his talent as he conjured up a brilliant half-century before Rajasthan Royals spinners choked Chennai Super Kings to register a comfortable 32-run win and move to the top of the IPL table. Jaiswal (77 off 43) continued his rich form with his third fifty of the tournament before Devdutt Padikkal (24 not out) and Dhruv Jurel (34 off 15) provided the final flourish to register the highest total -- 202 for five -- at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.

Spinners Adam Zampa (3/22 in 3 overs) and Ravichandran Ashwin (2/35) then shared five wickets between them to restrict CSK to 170 for 6 despite Ruturaj Gaikwad (47) and Shivam Dube's (52) best efforts.

With the win, the Royals moved to the top of the table, while CSK drop down to third.

Orange Cap, Purple Cap

Royal Challengers Bangalore's Faf du Plessis continues to be the leading run-getter with a tally of 422 in eight games. CSK's Devon Conway (322) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (317) hold the third and fourth sports respectively. As far as the leading wicket-takers are concerned, RCB's Mohammed Siraj and and Gujarat Titans' Rashid Khan and CSK's Tushar have 14 wickets each.

Talking about the game, in contrast to RR, CSK openers found the going tough before Gaikwad, who was dropped on four, broke the shackles and hit Jason Holder (0/49) for a four over mid on before cracking a six over deep backward square leg in the fourth over.

RR skipper Sanju Samson intensified the pressure by bowling spin from both ends and the move paid dividends.

Devon Conway (8) continued to struggle and with the required run rate increasing he was forced to hit a Zampa delivery flat to Sandeep Sharma at mid off.

Unperturbed by the wicket, Gaikwad kept stealing boundaries every over to keep the scoreboard ticking before Zampa struck once again to get rid of the dangerman.

CSK were 72 for two at the halfway mark.

Ashwin (2/35) then snared the wickets Ajinkya Rahane (15) and "Impact Player" Ambati Rayudu (0) to further dent CSK's chances. But Dube had different plans. He upped the ante, hitting some much-needed sixes to give CSK a glimmer of hope.

The all-rounder brought his third consecutive half century with the help of four sixes and two fours. However, he couldn't take his side over the line.

iPhones, AirPods Replaced With Replicas by E-Commerce Delivery Executive in Gurugram

A delivery executive of an e-commerce firm allegedly stole 10 iPhones by replacing them with dummy phones on the way to deliver them to the customer here, police said on Thursday.

Station in-charge of Matrix Finance Solution, which delivers Amazon's parcel, Ravi in his complaint alleged that on March 27 delivery executive Lalit was handed over a customer's parcel, which contained 10 iPhones and an AirPods, at his address, they said.

However, instead of delivering the parcel, Lalit replaced the iPhones with replicas and sent his brother Manoj to deposit them back to the company claiming that the customer could not be contacted, Ravi said in his complaint.

Suspecting some tampering with the packaging, the parcel was opened and the delivery company found the fake phones inside, police said.

Meanwhile, upon not receiving his parcel, the customer also cancelled his order, they said.

An FIR has been registered against Lalit under sections 420 (cheating), 408 (criminal breach of trust by employee) of the Indian Penal Code at Bilaspur police station on Wednesday, they said.

Efforts are on to nab the accused who is absconding, they said.

Meanwhile, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, the deputy minister for information technology, said that the US tech giant Apple could double or triple investments in India, along with exports, over the next few years as the company opened a second store in the world's biggest smartphone market after China.

Apple mainly assembles iPhones in India through Taiwan contract manufacturers but plans to expand into iPads and AirPods, as it looks to cut reliance on China.

Its iPhones made up more than half of total smartphones worth about $9 billion (roughly Rs. 74,000 crore) exported from India between April 2022 and February, data from the India Cellular and Electronics Association shows.

Microsoft, Alphabet, Other AI Companies Urged to Prioritize Security Measures for New Technologies

The chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee on Wednesday urged CEOs of several artificial intelligence (AI) companies to prioritize security measures, combat bias, and responsibly roll out new technologies.

Democratic Senator Mark Warner raised concerns about potential risks posed by AI technology. "Beyond industry commitments, however, it is also clear that some level of regulation is necessary in this field," said Warner, who sent letters to the CEOs of OpenAI, Scale AI, Meta PlatformsAlphabet's Google, Apple, Stability AI, Midjourney, Anthropic, Percipient.ai, and Microsoft.

"With the increasing use of AI across large swaths of our economy, and the possibility for large language models to be steadily integrated into a range of existing systems, from healthcare to finance sectors, I see an urgent need to underscore the importance of putting security at the forefront of your work," Warner said.

Earlier this month, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said he had launched an effort to establish AI rules and address national security and education concerns, as use of programs like ChatGPT becomes widespread.

Schumer, a Democrat, said in a statement he had drafted and circulated a "framework that outlines a new regulatory regime that would prevent potentially catastrophic damage to our country while simultaneously making sure the US advances and leads in this transformative technology."

ChatGPT, an AI program that recently grabbed the public's attention for its ability to write answers quickly to a wide range of queries, in particular has attracted US lawmakers' attention. It has become the fastest-growing consumer application in history with more than 100 million monthly active users.

Microsoft is a big investor in OpenAI, which created ChatGPT. The software company and Google have been pouring billions of dollars into AI to gain an edge amid heightened competition in Silicon Valley.

Updated IPL Table, Orange Cap, Purple Cap List After RCB vs KKR Match

Kolkata Knight Riders returned to winning ways with an encouraging win over the Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore on Wednesday. Kolkata Knight Riders conjured up a spin magic after Jason Roy's sterling fifty to snap their four-match losing streak with a 21-win over Royal Challengers Bangalore. The English opener led the show with a 29-ball 56 as Kolkata Knight Riders batters fired in unison to notch up a fighting 200/5 after RCB captain Virat Kohli opted to bowl at their home den.

But the spin duo of Varun Chakravarthy (3/24) and rookie Suyash Sharma (2/30) created a top-order mayhem, before Andre Russell (2/29) broke Kohli's resistance to restrict RCB to 179 for eight.

The win took KKR (six points; eight matches) up from the bottom-half of the table to seventh spot, ahead of Mumbai Indians on net run-rate. MI have a match in hand. RCB remained fifth with eight points from eight matches.

mrkn87k8

Orange Cap, Purple Cap

RCB's regular skipper Faf du Plessis continues to lead the top run-getter's list with a tally of 422 runs in eight games. Kohli follows him with 333 runs in eight matches. RCB's MOhammed Siraj is currently the joint-highest wicket-taker with 14 scalps along with Gujarat Titans' Rashid Khan. KKR's Varun Chakaravarthy follows then with 13 wickets.

Leading the side in absence of Faf Du Plessis, Kohli struck a 34-ball 54 and kept their hopes up in the 201-run chase after du Plessis (17) Glenn Maxwell (5) fell cheaply.

But all hell broke loose when Venkatesh Iyer took a game-changing catch at deep midwicket boundary to dismiss Kohli, off Russell.

He dived to his left and rolled over but held the ball firmly as Kohli walked back in disbelief.

With 86 needed from 48 balls, it was left for Dinesh Karthik (22) to keep up their chase but Chakravarthy had the last laugh when he had the veteran RCB keeper-batter en route to his three-for, and it seemed all over for RCB.

KKR Defeat RCB By 21 Runs, Return To Winning Ways

Kolkata Knight Riders conjured up a spin magic after Jason Roy's sterling fifty as they snapped their four-match losing streak with a 21-win over Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL, in Bengaluru on Wednesday.

Leading the side in absence of Faf Du Plessis, Kohli struck a 34-ball 54 and kept their hopes up in the 201-run chase after du Plessis (17) Glenn Maxwell (5) fell cheaply.

But all hell broke loose when Venkatesh Iyer took a game game-changing catch at deep midwicket boundary to dismiss Kohli, off Russell.

KKR thus did a double on RCB, having beaten them in their season-opener by 81 runs.

The loss again proved RCB's over-reliance on their Big Three -- Kohli, Du Plessis and Maxwell.

Cruising at 30 for loss, RCB's flying start was halted by the spin duo of Sharma and Chakravarthy who gave KKR a perfect start, sharing three wickets in between them inside the powerplay (58/3).

RCB's regular skipper Fa du Plessis, who sat out only to be subbed as an Impact Player, looked at his ominous best when he smashed Umesh Yadav on both the sides of the wicket.

Kohli too was looking in full flow as the RCB opening duo feasted on the KKR pacers to start with.

With their trump card spinner Sunil Narine going wicketless in four matches, Rana banked fell back on their latest spin package Suyash Sharma.

It was a move that did the trick as the leggie grabbed the prized scalp of du Plessis with a wrong one and in his next over he trapped Shahbaz Ahmed (2).

Maxwell then got out to Chakravarthy for a second time in as many matches this season which left the RCB's top-order in a disarray.

But there was no letting up from RCB as Mahipal Lomror showed his intent, giving Kohli a perfect support as the duo went about their way.

KKR finally got into the act with Roy setting tempo up front when he smashed five sixes and four boundaries as he and Narayan Jagadeesan (27; 29b) gave KKR their best ever start -- 83 runs from 56 balls.

KKR's batting came on either side of Sri Lankan legspin sensation Hasaranga's two terrific bowling spells as he returned with 4-0-24-2 that caused enough flutter.

First, his miserly spell after the powerplay gave the impetus for Vyshak's double blow when he dismissed Jagadeesan and Roy.

But Rana then ensured that they don't lose the momentum as he made full use of his two reprieves -- on five and 19 -- to race to his 21-ball 48 (3x4, 4x6).

KKR's new-found hero Rinku Singh (18 not out; 10b) then took charge as he smashed two fours and one six to ensure that they reach the 200-mark.

David Wiese smacked two sixes to make an unbeaten 12.

Roy showed KKR how it's done in the powerplay, blazing his way to a 22-ball fifty, his second in a row to hand KKR their best ever start this season.

The Englishman showed his intent against the likes of RCB new ball bowlers and Mohammed Siraj and David Willey and unleashed his fury when leftarm spinner Ahmed was introduced in the last over of the powerplay.

Roy smoked him for four sixes in five balls in a 25-run over as KKR cruised to their highest powerplay score this season with 66 for no loss.

But all credit to Hasaranga for a tidy over after the powerplay where he conceded just two runs to mount pressure on the duo.

Vyshak and Harshal Patel too tightened the noose as boundaries suddenly dried up and it was all the more evident on the duo.

Struggling to get big hits, Jagadeesan was done in by a Vyshak bouncer, while Roy got a peach of a delivery from the uncapped Indian who got a perfect leg stump yorker to clean up the Englishman around his legs.

"Keyboard Warriors": Australia Great Shuts Down Arjun Tendulkar's Critics

Arjun Tendulkar has seen both ends of the spectrum in his short IPL career so far. After taking a wicket in the last over against SunRisers Hyderabad in an IPL 2023 match, Arjun conceded 48 runs in three overs against Punjab Kings. In that match he also conceded 31 runs in one over, which is the second-most costliest over by a MI bowler. Against Gujarat Titans on Tuesday, Arjun, son of Sachin Tendulkar, began on a promising note and conceded four runs in the opening over after his skipper Rohit Sharma opted to bowl first on winning the toss.

MI didn't have to wait long for their first breakthrough as Wriddhiman Saha missed an attempted pull shot to edge one to the keeper off Tendulkar in the first ball of the third over. Having taken his partner Shubman Gill's advice, Saha reviewed, but the on-field umpire's decision was retained by UltraEdge.

It was a nice comeback by Tendulkar junior, four days after being smacked for 48 runs in three overs by Punjab Kings. Growing in confidence, the 23-year-old left-arm seamer gave away just five runs.

While Arjun has been praised for his yorkers, his lack of express speed has been criticised by some. Former Australia pacer Brett Lee opened up on the criticism that he has been facing.

"You will have people criticise almost everything. If you look at Sandeep Sharma, he has been bowling at 120 kph. Arjun is bowling way faster than that. He is only 23 years of age and he has got his whole career ahead of him. My advice will be don't listen to critics," Brett Lee said in an interaction facilitated by Jio Cinema, IPL's digital broadcasters.

"Like his dad had to go through like he misses out and gets a low score, you got to back yourself. He has got some wonderful skills. He can bowl at 140 kph so as soon as he gets comfortable bowling in the team environment, gets more comfortable playing in front of the big lights and big crowd, his pace will increase. I see no issue with his pace. I know how fast he can bowl. He has got all the talent and all the right attributes. So my advice would be to keep doing what you have been doing and don't listen to those people who are trying to have a go at him because remember most people who will criticise on social media have never bowled a ball in their life. They are keyboard warriors."

IPL 2023: Shubman Gill, Noor Ahmad Star In GT's 55-Run Win Over MI

Gujarat Titans produced a clinical performance to outclass Mumbai Indians by 55 runs in a completely one-sided IPL match on Tuesday. Set a stiff target of 208, MI were stopped at 152 for nine. MI didn't get the kind of start they would have liked and were struggling at 29 for the loss of captain Rohit Sharma's wicket in six overs, the team failing miserably to utilise the powerplay. While trying to work the ball on the onside, Rohit got a leading edge and ended up giving a return catch to his opposite number, Hardik Pandya, in the second over.

After the seamers have done their job, star leg-spinner Rashid Khan came on and bowled a very economical first over.

MI managed to score 13 runs in the seventh over, before Rashid ended Ishan Kishan's painstaking stay in the middle. Ishan consumed an many as 21 balls for his 13 runs.

Three balls later, Rashid had Tilak Varma trapped in front of the wicket to leave MI reeling at 45 for three in the eighth over.

From there, five-time winners MI could not do enough to challenge the defending champions.

After a forgettable outing with the ball where he was smashed around for 39 runs in two overs, Cameron Green chipped in with 33 off 26 balls, while Suryakumar Yadav contributed 23 in 12 balls. Nehal Wadhera smashed his way to 40 in just 21 deliveries, but their efforts only delayed the inevitable.

Besides Rashid's 2/27 in four overs, Noor Ahmad, the other spinner from Afghanistan, finished with impressive figures of 3/37 in his full quota of overs.

Earlier, GT's lower middle-order used the long handle to good effect and powered their team to a formidable 207 for six.

David Miller blazed away to a 22-ball 46, Rahul Tewatia smashed an unbeaten 20 in just five balls, while Abhinav Manohar needed only 21 deliveries to make 42 during a vital partnership of 71 runs for the fifth wicket with the South African.

This was after Shubman Gill made a neat 34-ball 56.

Arjun Tendulkar began on a promising note and conceded four runs in the opening over after his skipper Rohit opted to bowl first on winning the toss.

Gill got the first boundary of the match as the opener played one behind square off a Jason Behrendorff delivery that was slightly short.

MI didn't have to wait long for their first breakthrough as Wriddhiman Saha missed an attempted pull shot to edge one to the keeper off Tendulkar in the first ball of the third over.

Having taken his partner Gill's advice, Saha reviewed, but the on-field umpire's decision was retained by UltraEdge.

It was a nice comeback by Tendulkar junior, four days after being smacked for 48 runs in three overs by Punjab Kings. Growing in confidence, the 23-year-old left-arm seamer gave away just five runs.

With the help of few fours and a six, Gill gave the GT innings the momentum it needed after a quiet first five overs.

Gill collected 17 runs off Green's first as GT reached 50 for one at the end of the six powerplay overs.

However, defending champions GT suffered a major blow when Piyush Chawla (2/34) snared skipper Hardik caught in the deep by Suryakumar after the batter had made 13 off 14 balls.

GT were in for another shock as Gill, having played some fine shots on way to his brisk half-century, was sent back by Kumar Kartikeya to leave the team 91 for three at the start of the 12th over. Gill hit seven fours and a six.

Vijay Shankar was dismissed for 16-ball 19 before Manohar and Miller accelerated with their big hitting.

Manohar accumulated 17 runs off Chawla's final over to ruin his figures after three economical overs.

The duo of Manohar and Miller then amassed 22 runs in the 18th over bowled by Green, who was smashed for three sixes.

Finally, Riley Meredith took out Manohar in the beginning of the 19th over, out bowled as the batter looked to loft the ball over long-off.

Tewatia had a first ball six, before Miller ended the over with two more maximums.

"One-Two Years Ago...": Ajinkya Rahane's Subtle Dig At Old Teams KKR, DC

Ajinkya Rahane has credited talisman MS Dhoni's leadership for his transformation at Chennai Super Kings as the veteran Indian batter continued to wow fans with his never-seen-before power hitting in this season's Indian Premier League. Rahane slammed his second half-century of the season, an eye-popping 29-ball 71 not out, to lead CSK's 49-run rout of KKR in their IPL match here on Sunday.

"The only thing I tell you... I really enjoyed my knock, really happy that we won this match," Rahane said at the post-match press conference.

Giving credit to Dhoni, Rahane said he just needed an opportunity, something the World Cup-winning skipper gave him to rediscover his form.

"You get a chance to learn many things when you play under Mahi Bhai (MS Dhoni). As a batter and cricketer, you always want to grow," he said.

"The way the format is evolving, I feel as an individual you have to keep growing and developing your skills." Rahane has 209 runs from five innings with an average of 52.25 this season. And his tournament strike-rate -- 199.04 -- is the highest among specialist batters.

"My preparation has always been good. I always tried to improve myself, develop one or two new shots.

"Now I'm able to show my shots because of my preparation so far and the opportunity given my CSK," said Rahane.

Can't show how good I am if I'm not playing:

Rahane was with KKR last season and got limited opportunity to play under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer. He played seven matches and scored just 133 runs at a strike rate of under 104.

The 34-year-old batter, who lost his place in the Test side after the series in South Africa in January last year, got a new lease of life after being bought by the Dhoni-led side.

CSK were the only side who bid for Rahane, at his base price of Rs 50 lakh.

"The turning point is here I'm getting chances to play. I was really happy when CSK picked me. They gave me opportunity to play and express myself," Rahane said.

"If you see, I was not getting opportunities to play one-two years ago. And, if you don't play matches, how would you show what shots do you have in your armoury," he continued.

"You can't show them your stroke-making if you are not playing consistently." Asked whether the stunning knock was a response to the snub he got at KKR, Rahane said: "You guys have to decide that. For me, it's all about doing well for CSK, I let my bat do the talking."

Best is yet to come:

Sidelined from the Indian team, Rahane's form may just open the window for a comeback in the white-ball format. Rahane last played T20 Internationals way back in 2016, while he has not played an ODI since 2018.

But Rahane wants to live in the present and keep doing well for CSK.

"Naturally there will be talks when someone does well. I'm happy that people are saying good things about me, thinking about me. But my job is to stay in the moment, think about one match at a time and contribute well for CSK.

"I still feel my best is yet to come, really enjoyed all the knocks (this season).

"I just want to keep batting the same way, keep contributing for the team, not thinking too much about myself, the results and outcome. If I do that I will be really happy," he said.

Rahane further said he always was hungry for doing well for his team, be it for his franchise or India.

"Intent for me is all about doing well for the team, whether I'm playing for CSK or Indian team. Keep thinking about the team rather than thinking about yourself, you own result or the outcome.

"Intent is about how badly you want to do well for your team, and how badly you are thinking about your team. So that's my only thing," he signed off.

Updated IPL Points Table, Orange Cap, Purple Cap List After SRH vs DC Game

The David Warner-led Delhi Capitals clinched a low-scoring thriller against SunRisers Hyderabad at the latter's home-ground in an IPL 2023 game on Monday. Off-spin allrounder Sundar (4-0-28-3) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (4-0-11-2) exposed the batting frailties of Delhi Capitals' in the first half of the game to restrict them to 144/9 after David Warner opted to bat. But an inexplicable batting approach in which SRH never looked to dominate led to their downfall as they were restricted to 137/6. Despite the win, DC are still at the bottom of the 10-team league with four points (NRR -0.961) in seven games. SRH are just above them with four points (NRR -0.725) in seven games. Chennai Super Kings lead the points table with 10 points (NRR +0.662) from seven games.

Royal Challengers Bangalore's Faf du Plessis lead the highest run-scorers' list with a tally of 405 in seven games. DC skipper David Warner is third in the list with 306 runs in seven games. In the leading wicket-taker's lost, RCB's Mohammed Siraj and Punjab Kings' Arshdeep Singh have the joint-highest tally - 13.

Talking about the game, having lost half of their side for 85 runs in 14.1 overs, SRH's recovery was led by Heinrich Klaasen (31; 19b, 3x4, 1x6) and Sundar who came up with 15-ball 24 not out (3x4s).

But it proved not enough as Anrich Nortje (4-0-33-2) dismissed his South African temmate, before Mukesh Kumar bowled a terrific last over to defend 13 runs to hand Delhi a narrow yet thrilling second consecutive win of the season.

Delhi Capitals gradually strengthened their grip on the game by taking four wickets -- Agarwal, Rahul Tripathi (15), Abhishek Sharma (5) and Aiden Markam (3) in quick succession in the middle overs, and allowing a mere three fours between overs 5 to 15 which highlighted SRH's plight.

IPL 2023: Ajinkya Rahane Shines As CSK Beat KKR, Rise To Top Spot In Table

Ajinkya Rahane, whose T20 game has undergone complete metamorphosis, smashed an eye-popping 29-ball-71 as Chennai Super Kings, buoyed by support from capacity Eden Gardens crowd, out-batted Kolkata Knight Riders by 49 runs in an IPL game, on Sunday. A transformed Rahane took Eden Gardens by storm with his sensational stroke-play which was complemented in equal measure by the muscular Shivam Dube (50 off 21 balls) and ever-consistent Devon Conway (56 off 40 balls) with CSK scoring an imposing 235 for 4 in 20 overs.
With Jason Roy pulling a hamstring while fielding, the chase was out of question and Dhoni's young pace troika of Akash Singh (1/29 in 4 overs),Matheesa Pathirana (1/27 in 4 overs) and Tushar Deshpande (2/43 in 4 overs) along with seasoned spinners Moeen Ali (1/20 in 1 over), Maheesh Theekshana (2/32 in 4 overs) and Ravindra Jadeja (1/34 in 3 overs) restricted KKR to 186 for 8 in 20 overs.

Jason Roy (61 off 26 balls) coming in at No.5 due to hamstring niggle , did try his bit with a 19-ball half-century but 236 even with best of batting line-ups would have been a tall-order.

The win took CSK to top of the table with 10 points from seven games while KKR are now placed eighth among 10 teams after fifth defeat at halfeay stage.

To add insult to injury, KKR didn't get any home support as the 67,000 capacity Eden stands resembled a Sunflower as 'Canary Yellow' jersey filling up every corner of the venue.

They had come for their beloved Mahendra Singh Dhoni's 'Last Dance' and CSK didn't disappoint them either.

But for that credit goes to Rahane, who is surprising all and sundry each day with his positive intent. What is missing in KL Rahul is exactly what is there in Rahane but perhaps, the presence of Dhoni in that dug-out which is proving to be a clincher.

Rahane 2.0 ======== It was hard to fathom that the same Rahane had scored just 133 runs from seven matches at a strike rate of under 104 for KKR last season.

But Rahane seemed to have got a new lease of life after getting under the leadership of talismanic Dhoni as he continued his rampaging form for CSK with second fifty of the season.

Long perceived as a Test batter, the 34-year-old dished out some never-seen scoop shots, ruthless pulls laced with his signature drives, en route to his second fifty of the season.

Overall, he smashed sixes fours and five sixes in his 29-ball knock that came with a 244-plus strike rate. His fifty came of just 24 balls. His tournament strike-rate among specialist batters, who have faced a minimum of 100 balls, is just a shade below 190.

In all, CSK batters hit 18 sixes, exposing the plight of KKR bowlers in-front of a crowd, which for them was like playing at "home away from home".

On a day, the Eden immersed in a sea of yellow, KKR bowlers ran for covers with Kiwi opener Devon Conway once again leading the charge with a 40-ball-56, his fourth half-century of the season.

Conway once again found a fine ally in Ruturaj Gaikwad (35; 20b) as the duo put together 73-run (45b) for the opening wicket, before Rahane unleashed his fury in his new avatar.

There was a brief solace for KKR when the spin duo of Suyash Sharma and Varun Chakravarthy dismissed Conway and Gaikwad respectively in the space of 37 runs.

With CSK run-rate going under-nine an over, Shivam Dube (50; 21b, 2x4, 5x6) and Rahane seized the momentum with a 85-run partnership (32b).

The duo hit four sixes, and a boundary in a row to step up the run rate.

It was Dube who broke free against Varun Chakravarthy en route to his 20-ball fifty, his second too this season.

Rahane then took his India teammate Yadav to cleaners with two sixes, including a scoop, following it up with an elegant cover drive.

KKR's baffling team combination strategy in benching Shardul Thakur and handing debut to David Wiese proved to be an eyesore.

Kulwant Khejroliya, who had been brought in place of Thakur, took two wickets but leaked 44 runs in his two overs.

Sunil Narine was also a big let down for KKR and conceded 23 runs from his two overs without taking any wicket.

KKR had the grip on CSK's innings following a tidy five-run opening over by Umesh Yadav.

Yet to open his account, Conway then got an easy reprieve when Wiese put down a return catch from his own bowling.

Thereafter, it was all about CSK who cut loose with the Kiwi opener going after Wiese, smashing him for a six and following it up with 14 runs in the next over.

His opening partner, Gaikwad too matched Conway in stroke-making as CSK cruised to 59 for no loss in the powerplay.

The duo once again put together a perfect platform in a 73-run opening stand (45b) for the likes of Rahane and Dube to finish with an elan.

Updated IPL Table, Orange Cap, Purple Cap List Post MI-PBKS, GT-LSG Game

In a high-scoring thriller, Punjab Kings beat Mumbai Indians by 13 runs in an IPL 2023 game in Mumbai on Saturday. Invited to bat, Punjab Kings piled up 214 for 8 with Sam Curran, the highest paid overseas recruit, smashing 55 off 29 balls and adding 92 for the fifth wicket in just eight overs with Harpreet Bhatia (41 off 28 balls). National T20 team contender Jitesh Sharma (25 off 7 balls) also upped the ante towards the end.

For MI, leg-spinner Piyush Chawla (2/15 in 3 overs) was the best bowler with all the pacers getting more or less hammered. Chasing a big target of 215, MI could score only 201 for 6 in their 20 overs. Cameron Green top-scored for MI with 67 while Suryakumar Yadav and captain Rohit Sharma chipped in with 57 and 44 respectively. For PBKS, Arshdeep Singh was the most successful bowler with figures of 4/29.

With the win, PBKS have risen to the fifth spot while MI are down to the seventh spot. In the first match of the day, Gujarat Titans beat Lucknow Super Giants. GT are fourth in the table with LSG are second.

Watch: MS Dhoni's Heartwarming Moment With SRH Pacer's 2-Year-Old Daughter

Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni shared a sweet moment with Sunrisers Hyderabad fast bowler T Natarajan's two-year-old daughter after their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 encounter on Saturday. In a video posted on social media, Dhoni can be seen interacting with Natarajan's family and the ex-India captain told Natarajan's daughter that he himself has a daughter and he then shook her hand. In a video that CSK posted after their match against Lucknow Super Giants, Dhoni was also seen interacting with Krishnappa Gowtham's daughter.

Devon Conway's fearless unbeaten knock of 77 runs and Ravindra Jadeja's magnificent spell helped Chennai Super Kings (CSK) clinch a 7-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

CSK started their chase of 135 with Ruturaj Gaikwad slamming a boundary off Bhuvneshwar Kumar's delivery. Gaikwad and Devon Conway were off to a spectacular start with the bat and released pressure straightaway. The duo made optimum use of the field restrictions and produced 23 runs off the final over of the powerplay as they moved to 60/0.

Both the openers complimented each other very well and the Chennai Super Kings were cruising in the chase. Devon Conway reached his half-century off just 34 deliveries as the home side were 86/0 at the halfway mark.

SRH finally produced a breakthrough in one of the most unusual ways as Gaikwad was run-out at the non-striker's end after the ball touched Umran Malik's hand in his followthrough. The visitors didn't give up as Mayank Markande claimed the wickets of Ajinkya Rahane and impact player Ambati Rayudu in no time.

However, Conway remained unbeaten in the end and finished the job for CSK, who completed a clinical victory by 7 wickets.

Earlier, Jadeja's three-wicket haul helped CSK restrict SRH to 134/7. For CSK, Jadeja bagged three while Akash Singh, Maheesh Theekshana and Matheesha Pathirana claimed one wicket each. For SRH, Abhishek Sharma scored the highest with 34 off 26 while Rahul Tripathi played a knock of 21 runs.

Opted to field first, CSK received a fine start as their bowlers kept Sunrisers Hyderabad openers Harry Brook and Abhishek Sharma on their toes with their quality bowling. In the 5th over of the game, Akash Singh drew first blood as he removed SRH opener Brook for his individual score of 18.

The right-handed batter Rahul Tripathi then came out to bat. Tripathi and Abhishek handled SRH's charge as they kept piling runs for their team, slamming boundaries regularly. However, their partnership was broken by Ravindra Jadeja who dismissed well-set batter Abhishek for 34 in the 10th over of the game.

Abhishek's wicket invited right-handed batter and captain Aiden Markram to the crease. Hyderabad lost their two main players in under two overs as Jadeja first cleared Tripathi for 21 and then in the 13th over Maheesh Theekshana dismissed Markram for 12.

Heinrich Klaasen kept the scoreboard ticking as wickets tumbled at the other end to 91/4. Jadeja bagged his third wicket of the match as he dismissed Mayank Agarwal for 2 in the 14th over of the game.

Klaasen showed some resistance and kept piling runs while Marco Jansen played an anchor role. The resistance from the Proteas batter, however, finally ended at the hands of Matheesha Pathirana. After troubling Klaasen with a sequence of intelligent deliveries, Pathirana finally outfoxed the troublesome batter and had him caught at cover.

Washington Sundar then came out to bat. However, some sensible batting by Sundar and Marco Jansen in the last two overs ensured that their team post a respectable total of 134/7 on board.

"Last Phase Of My Career": MS Dhoni Drops Huge Bombshell After Win vs SRH

Chennai Super Kings skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Friday dropped a hint that he could be playing in his last Indian Premier League season, saying "it's the last phase of my career". Dhoni's side gave the fans at the Chinnaswamy stadium much to rejoice on Friday night, defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad by seven wickets, with New Zealand cricketer Devon Conway scoring his third half-century of this IPL season and Ravindra Jadeja claiming three crucial wickets.

Chasing 134/7, CSK scored the winning runs with eight balls to spare with Conway scoring an unbeaten 57-ball 77 and sharing an 87-run partnership with Ruturaj Gaikwad (35) for the opening wicket.

Overcome by the huge roar and support of the crowd when he came out of the dugout after his team won the match, Dhoni said, "All said and done, it's the last phase of my career, however long I play.

"After two years, the fans have had the opportunity to come here and watch, feels good to be here. Crowd has given us a lot of love and affection," said Dhoni after the match.

Dhoni was all praise for young Sri Lankan pace bowler Matheesha Pathirana, who bowled four superb overs and grabbed two wickets, even though he was a little expensive, conceding 42 runs.

"Not getting enough chances to bat, but no complaints. I was hesitant to bat second because I had that feeling there won't be a lot of dew. When there are chances of dew, you have to bat second.

"Spinners once they came in, bowled a very good length. Fast bowlers once they came back, especially Pathirana, bowled superbly," added Dhoni.

Conway said CSK were trying to perfect a winning template after yet another dominating display.

Conway, who turned the match into a no contest with his unbeaten half-ton, added that the below-par score of 134 set by SRH made the home team take fewer risks while chasing.

Though CSK completed the task in 18.4 overs, they could have finished the job much earlier but they chose caution over aggression at the M Chidambaram Stadium.

"Nice to be there in the end and get the win. Plan for us is simple. Every game, doesn't change too much. Play good cricket shows in the powerplay and put the bowlers under pressure. We try and look to repeat that regardless of what the score is," said Conway.

"We probably got the best of the conditions, probably (the ball) didn't hold as much as it did in the first innings. (The) pitch we experienced in Bangalore (against RCB) was a lot better. We knew we didn't have to be too reckless here." The New Zealander had struck 83 off 45 balls against RCB on a belter of a Chinnaswamy Stadium as CSK made a mammoth 226 for six on April 17 and defeated Faf du Plessis' side by eight runs.

Losing team skipper, Aiden Markram said the SRH batters had let the side down.

"Never nice to lose, disappointed. Let ourselves down with the bat. Lacked partnerships of substance. It wasn't a 130-odd wicket, more closer to 160. Tough to get momentum if you don't have partnerships.

"They (CSK) bowled well in the middle overs, didn't give us much to score of. We knew their spinners will play a big role, it was more about each person having his own plan to counter that.

"The guys had their plans but we couldn't get it right tonight ultimately. We need some wins now, have to see how we can get better with the bat."

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) stand-in skipper Virat Kohli said that the target batters put on the board was enough and there was no need to take the game till the end against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium on Thursday. RCB won the match against PBKS by 24 runs. RCB opener Faf du Plessis's 84 off 56 balls and Virat Kohli's 59 off 47 helped the team score 174 which PBKS failed to chase, getting all not in 18.2 overs.

In the post-match presentation, Virat said that he did not want the game to go till the end especially after they had dismissed two-thirds of the Punjab team to the pavilion.

"The strategy was to bat deep to have a crack at 190. Told them (the bowlers) that the target was more than enough. Cannot afford to take the game deep, especially when they lost 6-7 wickets," Kohli said in a post-match presentation.

When asked about their team's position in the points table, Virat said that the points table cannot define how good their team is and he also said that he would be concerned about points after playing the 13 or 14 games in the tournament.

"The table can't define your team. It's towards game 13 or 14 we can try and focus on what we need to do," Virat said.

Since Bangalore had gotten a solid start in the start, there was a feeling that they were 20-25 run short. However, in the second innings, the total seemed unachievable.

Siraj took a total of four wickets whereas Wanindu Hasaranga claimed two and Harshal Patel and Wayne Parnell scalped one wicket each.

"Faf batted really well on that pitch. His innings ensured we had that 20-30 extra at the end. The pitch was very rough underneath, there was not enough water there I guess. There were hardly any sixes hit off the back foot against the spinners," the RCB captain continued.

"The batting lineups are deeper, but we also have options in our bowling. At the halfway stage, the talk was to take the game to the opposition and you kind of break the game open when you pick up 4 wickets in the powerplay," Virat concluded.
